Not exactly sure.
This just sets the stage for the upcoming grant of media rights that runs out in 2024. Nothing more, nothing less. Right now this is a good deal for the Big 12, they are moving all level 3 content except for OU and UT to ESPN.

The big question we all have to worry about is UT and OU willing to stay in the Big 12, many think UT is the key school, I disagree, to me the key school is OU.
UT has the LHN signed with ESPN until 2035 or so, they are locked into ESPN and that will bar them from moving to the Big 10. Texas will never join the SEC with aTm already there, they could do the independent deal and join the ACC, but that means more travel. They will stay and continue to run the Big 12.

OU is another matter, they and OSU could jump to the SEC in a moment, or try and join the Big 10 without being an AAU school, and let OSU head to the SEC.

It will get interesting over the next few years, but this is a great first step to insuring the future of the Big 12 as it now stands.

LHN was 15 years so that is around 2025. And Texas is the big boy, not Oklahoma.

OU and her bloated fat sister may or may not take a full share of whatever this contract turns out to be. Certainly, they deserve a full share of the championship game and perhaps that's all there is anyway.

I believe this contract is still in negotiation, not only with ESPN but also between the 10 member institutions. Why it was made public beforehand is confusing but typical of bloated Bob Bowlsby's fumbling ways.

But expect OU and her fat sister to threaten the 8 dwarfs if not given their full share for contributing pretty much nothing beyond the championship games because that's how this conference has been formulated and working since reconstruction (post Missour'a).

In reality, the ESPN contract, as alluded to earlier, may only be paying the B12 for the championships not the dwarfs' third-tier rights regardless, as the latter may have been offered up as a step in contract renewal down the road, in other words, not for cash (today) but for future considerations. That seems to be the case given the paltry amount of information given to this point in time.

Thankfully, both OU and her fat sister seem to be in strong competitive positions and financially healthy today causing them to pause at jumping ship tomorrow.

I guess that I will be buying ESPN+ and cancelling Cyclones.TV here soon. I don't love doing it but that seems obvious because we are getting more for less money (for now).

• In 2020-21, Iowa State, TCU, West Virginia and Texas Tech will join the lineup.

So one more year of Cyclones.TV?

I guess that they talked about this on KXNO today and said that Walters didn't think the ULM game was going to be on Cyclone.TV. So that means UNI was the game and nothing on Cyclones.TV this year either. Perhaps they just sold the right to FS1 for the UNI game.

Walters was on another KXNO show last week and said the same thing. JW doesn't think there will be a CTV game this year. Iowa State doesn't own the rights for the any of the games though. The only way Iowa State gets to use their tier 3 rights is if the game isn't selected by a tier 1 or 2 carrier.

Big 12 OOC football games on ESPN+ this year:
week 1- Baylor vs SFA, K-State vs Nicholls
week 2- Kansas vs Coastal Carolina, Okie St. vs. McNeese

Am I missing any? Probably will skip signing up this football season and wait for next when we have games airing on it. Maybe basketball season will have some better Big 12 content. Has anyone else signed up for ESPN+? Is there other content that make it worth the price? I'm seeing $4.99/mo or $49.99/yr. (which is not high at all, I just don't see anything worthwhile currently) TIA

Cyclone tv is gone effective 2020. They have no football on it this year. Will be a lot of re runs. The channel really has disappointed compared to what they were saying it was going to do. Espn and fox will own rights to everyone here soon except Texas

From the article:

ESPN signed a sweeping media-rights deal with the Big 12 that will see ABC or ESPN carry every football championship game through ’24 and will launch a Big 12-branded area on ESPN+. In the new deal, which includes three championship games and ESPN+ rights, ESPN will pay a total of around $40M. When this agreement is added to the current media-rights deal that still has six years to run, the conference will average $22M per year, sources said. A formal announcement is expected later today.

...
Hundreds of events from all sports will be offered on ESPN+ under a Big 12 brand. Eight of the 10 schools will provide more than 50 exclusive events per year, including at least one football game, any spring football game and any basketball game that is not on an ESPN linear network. Texas, which has Longhorn Network, and Oklahoma, which has its own local rights deal, will not provide content to ESPN+. However, both schools will be featured on the streaming service when they are an away team and during conference championships outside of football and basketball.
So do Texa$ and Okie still get a full cut of the $22M per year since they are not providing content?

I have ESPN+ since I signed up for “Insider” access on the website about 10 yrs ago... it was $50/yr and you got all of the insider content online as well as the magazine. Couple years ago they gave ESPN+ to “Insiders”.

Never watch it and I was about to cancel before this announcement....

Excited to have Big 12 content. Currently just small schools, Olympic sports and soccer.

I would recommend The Athletic over ESPN Insider.. but it’s ok. They have some interesting info on draft, free agency, etc. more professional sports than college teams. I believe the magazine has been canceled (I just threw it out when it came in, prefer reading online content). ESPN team coverage has gone way downhill... very little content of interest on Big 12 or ISU that is not already available elsewhere. Also, produce very little “Insider” content for B12/ISU (cant remember any recently).

Here is an example of what used to be an "ESPN Insider" story... now called "ESPN+" so looks like the branding change is complete (have not been paying too much attention).

https://www.espn.com/college-footba...sive-line-ranks-atop-big-boys-alabama-clemson

For the most part they are rankings of some kind (rank NFL free agents, draft prospects, etc.) this one is ranking college d-lines... Also had another from Phil Steele ranking "surprise" teams of 2019.

ISU's D-Line came in 12th between ND (11) and Mich (13). They were the first of two B12 d-lines on the top 15 list he put together. TCU's d-line was 15th.

Write-Up on ISU:
"The Cyclones returned three of their top four for 2018, including JaQuan Bailey and Ray Lima (both second-team All-Big 12). This season, the top four return on the Big 12's top defensive line, which not only had its best rush yards allowed per game mark since 2005 at 115, but also its highest sack total (33) in over 20 seasons."

You can look up your favorite teams and look for the articles with the "E+" logo. Those are the ones that require the subscription. It gives you the beginning of the article so you can get an idea of what it is... again, it's ok, would recommend The Athletic if you are only getting one. That is obviously before ISU comes online next year. But I will be interested to see what other content they have on Big 12 Now... especially Olympic sports like wrestling... Maybe some ISU content gets covered there this year since some teams will provide content this season... we'll see.
