For 19 seasons, Iowa never won more than five games in a season (twice). In those 19 years Iowa won two or fewer games five times, including two zero win seasons. This streak ended in 1980 or 81 I believe. THEY WERE THE LAUGHING STOCK OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL

For gawd's sake folks, when I was at ISU as an undergrad iowa was the laughing stock of the country,...... held the record for number of consecutive losing seasons. And ISU had two of the country's best coaches and teams. We were IT in the state of iowa. Of course it will happen again.

I'm assuming your talking about the early 70's....funny, my father was telling me the same thing today. Even said Florida State was in the top 5 bottom teams in the country too.

I take it you were an undergrad in the 1960's?
I'm thinking the 70's. I was an undergrad in the 60's and we really were not very competitive although we thought Dave Hoppman, Tom Vaughn, or Tim VanGelder might get us there. Didn't work out.

This is when I became a Cyclone fan. My brother was a good player in high school. His coach was an EIU graduate. The coach got in contact with ISU and not Iowa because they were a joke.

He wanted my brother in Iowa but not at Iowa... so Iowa State was the school. Five years later the Clones went to their first bowl game...

This went from being a "F*** yeah, FSU and Clemson to Big 12!" thread, and has turned into a "hate-on-hawkeye11en1" thread.

... why don't we do this more often? :jimlad:

Did Iowa State move to the South? Isn't ISU the northern most member of the Big 12? So Iowa is competing against other northern schools who you believe will be losing more and more talent to the South. ISU is competing against southern schools who you believe will be gaining more and more talent. How is this an advantage for ISU again?

Clark - your are welcome my outrageous post generated additional traffic on your board, on your radio program, whatever it is you do now - I don't live in Iowa anymore so forgive me for not knowing all of your current initiatives. Below is the original post

"It is not impossible to think Iowa State can or should overcome Iowa as the primary Athletic and Academic institution in state...ISU already graduates more Iowans, being aligned with the second best football conference in the new era of Only Money Matters, everyone else can play on their own Cable Stations that no one will even know where to find is sea change for the prospects of Iowa State. Sure the Big 10 will always be in the conversation, but in name only. The elite athletic talent in this country resides in the South. Geographically, Iowa State is at a a big disadvantage to their southern counterparts - BUT NOT TO THE BIG 10. If the Big 12 is successful being the SEC's equal (or closest competition) in the coming decade, Iowa State being in the Big 12 will increase its profile, it will be on TV on Major Networks, it will compete for the best in state talent and most importantly attract kids that in the past may have been content to stay in the South in a lessor conference or go to what is currently a "higher profile" Northern School. No More. We may never be the elite in our conference year over year, but I have a good feeling we will be every bit of Iowa's equal and in time the IOWA State school. There is very little difference in the talent in the two programs now, with more money and more time, well - let it be so"

Key points,
1) ISU will always be disadvantaged by being the furthest north School in a Southern Athletic Conference. Just like Minnesota is in the Big 10. The difference is if the Southern Athletic Conferences gain an advantage over their Northern and Western counterparts, then ISU gains by inclusion.
2) IF the Big 12 and SEC are successful in getting more money in the current Only Money Matters state of College Football, ISU maintains pace with all Big 10 schools in terms of the fuel to success which is money.
2.5) Only money matters in the current state of CFB. Iowa historically has had more. But Iowa State competed with far less.
3) Iowa State already competes with Iowa on the field, Iowa had a beter run through the 80's and 90's. Iowa State equalized thereafter at a significant disadvantage in fandom and money. In all other Sports except Wrestlin, Iowa State is every bit of Iowas eqaul.
4) The future Super Conference 64 structure with Iowa State included in the better part of the 32 makes it conceivable Iowa State can overcome Iowa. Will it happen? Only with on field success, 29% of your fandom (my made up number) are T-Shirt Fans, they can easily change their colors, that give Iowa State a 59-41 Advantage (another made up number) when we not only win but outsine you in the National Spotlight.

5) You might want to consider signing on with Cyclone Fanatic as it is clear the market is changing in Iowa.

Do you think I'm Jon Miller?

I thought you were, but now that you have reminded me who you are - can I have my $7/month back for 27 months a few years ago? I mean - surely someone who gets paid for giving opinions about ISU athletics can see the magnitude of ISU now being on the right side of realignment and in tune with the Southern Power Brokers of CFB?

I think there have been a few people that have thought you were Jon Miller. LOL. Kinda funny, actually.

Do you think it's because I look like this:
