This is info from a friend of mine with a doctorate in micro-biology.

N95 Mask - Designed to protect wearer from external environment. Does not filter exhale at all. One way filter. Acts as a barrier to liquids/mist from sneeze or cough.

Surgical Mask - Designed to protect external environment from wearer. Again one way filter. Does not filter inhale for viruses. Acts as a barrier to liquids/mist from sneeze or cough.

Non Filtered cloth mask - Very minimal protection vs airborne either in or out. At the microscopic level viruses go right through like air going through a screen door. Acts as a barrier to liquids/mist from sneeze or cough.

shields - Protect eyes from and face from liquids/mist from sneeze or cough. No protection from airborne viruses.

Basically said to get protection both ways wear a surgical mask over an n95 mask.

Or buy a hazmat type helmet.

.

This is false and only applies to N95s with exhalation valves.

That's the kind I had in hand when we were talking. I didn't know there was another kind of n95 mask. If so, I stand corrected. Weird he didn't tell me that.
