Well, we just got engaged a few weeks ago, both wanted to get married before the end of the year, and with going into too much detail October was about the only month that worked for us that far out. I did make sure that ISU did not have a home game that weekend at least!

We have been dating for a little over 6 years...she knows what she is getting into with my love of ISU athletics :jimlad:

Does the OP have a problem with the proper use of a jimlad for sarcasm?

And going on a honeymoon in the Fall is generally unacceptable . . . maybe on a bye week . . . but not on a week with an away game . . . or maybe it should be a road trip for an away game . . . problem solved.

where did you stay? I've actually yet to go despite living in WI for several years.

Well, we actually didn't stay in Door County. That Sunday was the Packers/Eagles game at Lambeau, so we did a long Saturday day trip up to Door County. Did some shopping, some eating, some wine tasting, then stayed in Green Bay that night.

Worked out well for us that weekend, but we obviously didn't get the full experience. I'm sure we'll be back.

Oct. 24th = Away game in Waco, TX...not the best destination, it could be worse I guess...could be Lubbock.

I'll also throw in the option of not taking your honeymoon right away. My wife and I got married in the summer and waited until January when the weather sucked and left for a week

10+ days in Hawaii - highly recommend it. We went to Kaui for our honeymoon and during the trip, spent a full day in Honolulu. Lots of flights between the islands and took first one in the morning and last one back to Kaui in the evening.

We went back 2 years ago and stayed on Maui. Rented a house with my brother for the first part and then stayed at the Grand Waileia for the last part of the trip. Another awesome vacation.

I'd recommend spending part of the time at a beach resort and then part of the time more inland for quiet/budget reasons. I found this place during our last trip, wanted to stay there but it was booked. Looks absolutely perfect.

If you're looking for more affordable options you might want to look into taking the train. We took the California Zyphyr out to Winter Park for a ski trip and loved it. We got off early but the whole route goes to San Fran and some of the mountains you go through you cannot see by car. They have observation cars so you really get to see the scenery. You could take a leisurely trip out, spend a few days in California (no shortage of things to do there) then fly home.

Dearest Fanatics,

Long story short, the fiance and I are taking the plunge at the end of October and could use some advice/direction on honeymoon destinations during that time of year. I glanced through the previous honeymoon threads and never found one that discussed a fall time frame...so here I am.

Personally I would prefer to do something a little more outdoorsy (Alaska would far and away be my #1 choice, but not sure about it considering the timing), and I think she would prefer something with beaches.

All in all, just looking for thoughts and ideas for that season. Obviously the cheaper the better, but I realize this whole getting married thing involves some money being spent.

...In before the "don't get married" posts :jimlad:

No suggestion for the honeymoon, but congrats! I've been married 8 months now and its a blast

if you're going all inclusive tropical (Mexico, Carribean, Dominican, etc.) it's more so about the quality of resort IMO than it is actual location.

for a week for two, expect $3500-$4000 w/ travel for something nice. go through a travel agent, it's worth the convenience. Apple Vacations we've gone through a few times and have never had a bad experience

I made this suggestion as well. She could be swayed, but I think her first choice would be to take a trip immediately afterwards. The number of vacation days we can both spend is going to factor into this as well, so pushing it back might become more of a possibility.

Nantucket. Most of the summer people leave around Labor Day so prices are a little lower. Take the ferry service from Woods Hole or Martha's Vineyard. Eat lobster with your hands and throw the shell to the gulls that just sit and wait for you to finish. Bike around the island. etc.

Not very beachy in the fall, but when my husband and I lived in D.C. we took a weekend trip and drove Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, then went to Monticello and Charlottesville, went for a stop at UVA. I think Skyline Drive would be spectacular in the fall. We would both more likely be interested in historical than beaches though. Depending on how much time you have, could go to D.C., Baltimore, Annapolis, etc. Or could go to some Civil War sites. I suppose that sounds like a nerd honeymoon. We didn't have any money for our own, went camping in Minnesota.:embarrassed:
