I used to casually follow whichever team Mike Leach was coaching. Obviously, those days are over. Sadness. I don't know if I have a second team that I follow.

My husband was raised Catholic, so naturally he follows Notre Dame.

Utes, Washington State, Washington, Oregon, Oregon State.

I know people are annoyed by Utah right now, but having lived there it’s a good school and I’ll never root for BYU.

What happened w Utah? Their general “we’re too good for big 12” attitude?

Since I live on the border and work with many alums, I usually root for Illini (especially against the huawks). Not a fan of their current coaches (FB or MBB) but oh well. Outside of that, I used to spend a lot of time in NC working with NC State grads so have a passing interest in their outcomes and down in AL and MS working with a lot of Miss State grads. Lot easier to root for them when the pirate was their coach. Plus both of those schools are STATE and looked down on in their state by the other team's fans, just like ISU is in Iowa.

No reason for liking them, just randomly do - Wyoming and New Mexico State.

Edit: Also not so random since they were always on TV and I was raised Catholic, Notre Dame.
My Aunt was a nun, and a big sports fan in Chicago. She would say ”I do not care for Norte Dame”. Pretty harsh.

That history with BYU is pretty bad, so I think primarily they’re looking at reasons to not have to be in a conference with them. They do like the academic side as well, being aau and having a medical school and I think they’re right that the big 12 identity is really sports only. How much that matters going forward, of course, will force some attitudes to change.

I don’t think it makes sense to add them anyway. CU/AZ in next few years then a few from ACC later on is best case scenario since giant SEC/Big10 is reality.
