Went down to the local dueling piano bar tonight, and the very FIRST requested song they play is the Iowa fight song. Well for some reason, even though we are in Davenport, the place booed the guy playing the piano. Then some Suckeye walks up there and give the guy three measly dollars to continue. Boos were heard again, so the man says bring $4 up here to stop. I ran up there so quick to stop this foolishness and give him $5 to stop. I said play IOWA STATE!! He looks at me and says, "I don't know that, Im from Minnesota" So I sang the song for him and had one hell of a time doing it. And just so you know, it was done with only a beer and a half!

We went to the piano bar in the East Village a few weeks ago , and the guy sang the Iowa fight song, then said there was one part of his job that he f'ing HATED, which was singing the Iowa fight song. He asked if there were any CYCLONE fans in the crowd, and besides our table of 8 there was a bachelorette party that was full of Cyclone fans, and we drowned out the 5 hawkeye fans who didn't even know the words to their fight song.

It was cool

I got into a similar situation at the same piano bar in Davenport a couple months ago. I had been there before and knew that people often request fight songs at these things, so I started it by requesting ISU's and putting in a few bucks. Some hawk fan of course then gave a dollar more than I had originally and they started playing that. I think I ended up shelling out $20 the next time and they played the ISU fight song on repeat for a good 5 minutes while telling hawkeye jokes. Apparently the hawk fans in the place couldn't afford to make them stop

I think its funny how there's a thread on CF saying that 6-7 dollars for a beer at the fair is just too ridiculous and then there's a thread where people say they pay anywhere between 5-20 dollars for a few minutes of a fight song at a bar. Even if the other person loses the bidding war for a song, doesn't the piano man get to keep that too?
Opposite ends of the spectrum huh?

This isn't about beer its about honor and keeping that Hawkeye propaganda off the streets

We were at that same piano bar in the East Village and the $ was getting up around $200.00 to keep the ISU Fight Song going!!! Every ISU fan in the place was forking over $ to keep it going!

Plus I got a ISU Football t-shirt out of the deal. Probably most expensive t-shirt I ever bought!!!!!!!

If it's the Grand Piano Bistro, one of the regular piano players there (and maybe part-owner?) is an ISU grad. Tony Bohnenkamp (Boner) who also used be the drummer for the Nadas.

The only reason the $ got so high is b/c we went out after a wedding where the groom is a Squawk fan and I was the best man. So the wedding party kept one uping each other with the $.
