The changes that stadium has undergone the last few decades are remarkable. Growing up we went to many many big 8 road games, the trips to the state of Kansas always made me appreciate JTS, which at the time was a hideous concrete eyesore. It's possible that Bill Snyder has meant more to that program than any coach at any program ever.

He took it from a school of 14k ready to jettison football and/or move to WAC, to what is here today, 24k students and a solid D1 sports program. A remarkably decent man. Not brilliant. Just very hard working, smart, loyal to the bone, totally focused and completely absorb in his job. They'll never be another quite like The Wizard.

I could have easily replaced the word program with school

I prefer our new endzone corners to K-State's. Just saying.

As much success as they have had under Snyder, you would think they would be itching to get bigger while they are making it better.

College football attendance isn't growing across the board. 50,000 seems to be the sweet spot. Despite TCU & Baylor's recent success, their new stadiums are right around 45,000. Purdue, Stanford, & Miami (to name a few) have all downsized.

They didn't downsize because of attendance. They downsized because of a safety risk and making room for their new renovation. They will be expanding capacity again with their renovation.

Yes.

TCU enrollment ~10,000
Stanford enrollment ~16,000
Baylor enrollment ~17,000
Miami (OH) enrollment ~18,000 and not P5
KSU enrollment ~25,000

Ross-Ade Stadium (Purdue) ~57,000 (In June 2014, the south end-zone bleachers, which seated 6,100 spectators, were removed to avoid necessary safety upgrades and in preparation for proposed renovations. The area was converted to a Patio area for fans to enjoy a more party like atmosphere. There were several tables set up with a large concessions tent anchor the middle of the area. This is the first time a regular game attendee could purchase alcohol. - Source Wiki) They also have two more phases in the works to add upper decks to various areas of the stadium. AD says this is not dependent on season ticket sales trends.

All I know is, I'm now fully in the camp that says we need to expand the press box. It is almost like the last piece of the puzzle--until we need to bowl in the NEZ. :jimlad:

Those Purdue renderings are pretty sweet. Would be nice if they could get the football program turned around. It's been crap ever since Joe Tiller & Drew Brees left.

[edit] I see nothing to suggest expanding back to 69,000 is anywhere in Purdue's immediate future, so they've still downsized IMO.

This piece is a bit dated but reflects the fact that stadiums are going both directions with capacity, e.g. aTm +20,000; ASU - 11,000.

K-State is sized appropriately for it's fan base. Not in or near a major metro area, 50,000-55,000 is a pretty good game day haul. What's important to any program is insuring that operations are solvent, not how many seats are available. And I suspect K-State's revenue from its capacity (27 straight sellouts) is similar to much larger venues. For example, my 40 yard line ticket total cost is $700 each. Not sure how that compares with ISU, but I'd guess similar?
