First Cubs game at Wrigley

So I'm going to my first Cubs game at Wrigley. Got some free tickets and thought it would be fun. I'm taking my 11 year old daughter with me. Was hoping for some tips on game day. Best way to park, and go to the game. It's the Sunday afternoon game and I'll need to be heading home right after the game. I was thinking a sports bar that had a shuttle to the game maybe? Whatever is the quickest option to get out and on the road.

Park out in the suburbs and take the train in. Should drop you off/pick you up right outside of Wrigley. I come over from the North and park at Skogie and ride in from there....if you are coming in on 80 I am sure there is another suburb further south that you can do this with fairly easily.

Best bet would be to take the train. There is a Metra stop right outside the stadium (stops on Addison street and is on the Red Line). That area gets crazy during game days/times when it comes to traffic.

Only times I have ever gone to Wrigley we've stayed overnight so we'd get a hotel downtown and take the Red Line to Wrigley. By far the easiest thing to do to get in/out of Wrigley area the fastest I think and lots of options for things other than the Cubs game if you make a weekend out of the trip. Have fun!

You can park around Wrigley but be prepared to pay $50-$100 for a decent spot (not blocked in, not walking 1+ mile). Agreed with others, take the train in and out.

I'd also highly recommend spending some time before or after the game in Wrigleyville. It might not be 100% suitable for an 11 year old but its part of the atmosphere that makes Wrigley great.

Driving to Wrigley and then paying the cost to park is a kick in the nuts.

Maybe worse is driving home from Wrigley. So basically try not to drive to or from Wrigley. Seriously.

Take the train. It's simple and quick and eliminates the hassle.
Last time I went, we drove out that day, parked in a suburb at a Park and Ride thing, took the train in, and repeated for the drive home.

Staying somewhere sounds like a great idea. See some other Chicago things, have a great time.

Oh, and bring home a win.

If you're coming in for the game only, I always hit the Yellow Line in Skokie, then transfer to Red Line at the end of the Yellow. Red Line will stop right at Addison.

If you're spending a night, either stay in the River North area and take the Red Line up or stay near the airport and take the Blue Line and do the bus transfer.

Wrigley is one of the most difficult ballparks to get to.

That being said, it's the most breath-taking stadium in the nation of any sport. No, not because it's old. But you are driving through these old downtown apartments, looking beautiful and old and all that, and then all of a sudden, fitting right in with the downtown feel, is this massive baseball stadium. It fits right in with the neighborhood.

I've parked there for a day game before. It's a hassle for sure but can be done. I reserved a spot online (using SpotHero) in a parking garage about half a mile south on Sheffield.

The last two times I've parked on the street (for free) in residential neighborhoods a mile & 1/2 from Wrigley. Around a 45 minute walk but you barely deal with city traffic, so it's worth it. Or you could just uber it from there.

I usually stay downtown and take the red line. I did park in the suburbs once and took a bus, not sure I'd recommend that as it was a long ride with all the stops/traffic.

And you'll probably need your Bus Pants

I agree with the others who have said either take the Red Line from downtown or northern suburbs.

I'm looking at going to a game Sept. 17th. Anybody have a suggestion on where to get tickets on the secondary market? Is StubHub the way to go (those fees though)?

Also, I've never sat in the bleachers before and want to give it a whirl any suggestions or tips? How early do you need to get there?

Yeah, if you have time, you could always find free street parking in residential neighborhoods and either uber from there or hop on the red line. I live a mile or two north of Wrigley and there are a lot of free street parking areas. Just make sure there are no zone permits posted along the street and you're good.

Get to Wrigleyville more than 3 hours early. Get a bloody Mary at Murphys and sit on the patio. When the line looks like a couple hundred people, head that way. Pick up a bag of peanuts before you head in.
When you go in, head to your first left of the ramp to go up. There's a men's room and a concession stand. At that stand you can get Old Style. Buy a couple and head up and make your claim.
