Heck while working at the State Auditors Office I frequently had to use a State car to travel to bfe Iowa. Nights in bfe Iowa were boring so I regularly used the State issued car to travel to nearby towns, where I had "friends" to hang out.

According to some in this thread I committed a heinous crime.
This is something where there is nuance to it. I don't have an issue with it and I think it should be allowed because you were required to use it. I think the plane issue is that way as well. I have no issue with them picking them up on the way because I think there are reasonable reasons for it. There is no reason to refuel on the way home is my understanding so they shouldn't have stopped on the way back.

It comes down to more an issue of he has shown extremely poor decision making regardless of if it is technically ok or not.

Three years for a plane seems like a long-time. I don't know much about airplane values but they would likely depreciate pretty darn fast. He likely paid a premium just to have it as it's decked out in ISU logos. I mean, what alumni wouldn't want to own the plane if possible.

Cirruses (Cirri?) are the best selling single engine piston planes in the last 20 years. The market for them is very solid and depreciation is guaranteed aircraft values are relatively slow to fall.

I wouldn't give up any body parts for a Cirrus because then I couldn't fly it but damn I can't wait to own one someday.

Disappointed. Thought we were going to hear about a Leath incident with an Auburn plane.
He hasn't crashed one, but here he is disembarking on an Auburn trip.

One small correction to that. It states that he could have flown VFR during the day and not been tracked. VFR can be flown night or day in the U.S.
