Only if it's The Sign. Anything else would be awful.
Side note: my band covered The Sign, I unfortunately know all the lyrics. Only have a live recording though, that was added to the set not long before we split...
This is a lame nit pick, but do you want to know what is actually wrong with the current "distraction"?
It doesn't work when everyone waves there arms around like crazy before going side to side. It just looks like mass chaos and the side to side motion doesn't stand out or work like it should. Note how Kansas does it. Arms to one side at an angle and completely still and then right before the ball is released a uniform motion of all students to the other side. It makes the side to side motion stand out and not look only like crazy arm waving.

What about getting about 50 orange hula hoops tilted at the same angle as the hoop. Then have some move in a slow waving movement, while others move in some quick little spastic movements.
