Litter or trash in public.
When I see it in a park, on campus, on the side of the road, etc. it just drives me nuts.

ESPECIALLY when it's clear the person just left it there.

If you could carry the full bottle to this spot, you could carry it out empty.

The sound of really cold snow crunching under feet or tires sends chills down my spine. It isn't bad if the snow is wet and heavy, but if it is cold and thoroughly frozen it drives me batty. Just typing this is causing my spine to tingle...

When people talk about catheters, I almost have physical pain at the thought of something entering my urethra. I've never had one in myself, but the thought is absolutely horrific to me.

Sounds - chewing, someone clipping their nails (in public ... ew ... there's no reason for this)
Words - hubby (it makes me cringe every time)
General things - someone being in my space (I'm with Angie on this one)
The misuse of "literally" used to drive me nuts, but it's become so common I've even caught myself doing it.

The catheters are bad enough but then you hear about guys intentionally shoving things up there that I don’t know how they got to fit. WTF

How about finding furniture/tvs/mattresses on the side of the road? That pisses me off to the core.

I know we've done this topic several years ago, but my son has been clearing his throat every fifteen seconds for like a month now, and it's driving me nuts. What are sounds or things that just drive you insane? Wet socks, a certain smell?

I cannot bear hearing people eat, specifically with their mouth open. (I think it's called misophonia?) And I do not like people in my space bubble - the six-foot COVID rule was my happy place.

What are yours?

That made me chuckle to myself. Had a college girlfriend dump me for a better looking cooler guy. She undumped me a week or two later and one reason was she couldn't stand listening to the guy eat. The wisdom of breaking up and unbreaking up is something for a different thread. ;)

I would give almost anything to have this ability. I'm hyper-aware. It's exhausting.

Same here. I think I can hear every sound within 100 feet of me. Any little ticking or scraping. Especially fun when you're trying to fall asleep.

In that same vein, I really prefer a pitch dark room to fall asleep in. Even a TV power light or a streetlight shining through the blinds bothers me.

Chewing with your mouth open.

And needles. No needles.

As a dog owner, there is no more annoying sound than hearing a dog a block away bark for hours on end, when all you want to do is sit outside and relax.
I can't stand it when people just leave their dogs outside barking. Obviously they want to come back inside!

Similar, but I have to add leaf blowers. I cannot stand them.

Styrofoam squeak makes me physically (and involuntarily) shudder - same with lots of metal-on-metal sounds.

Non-aurally, older fluorescent lights can sometimes feel to my eyes like a low-grade fingernails-on-chalkboard sound to my ears. I *think* it has to do with the 60Hz frequency that older ballasts operate at. I do get migraines occasionally, though, and it's definitely worse when I do stupid things and make myself more susceptible to the headaches.

People mentioning words/phrases made me think of one.

Men calling their wife, "the wife". As in, "the wife and I went out for dinner last night".

I don't think I've ever heard a woman use "the husband" in this way. Probably for good reason...it's incredibly objectifying.
