My spring break was usually helping my dad get the planter ready. It didn't fit in our farm shop so we worked on it in the gravel driveway, which was usually muddy slop that time of year. I would lay a piece of cardboard on the ground so I wouldn't get covered in mud.
Yes, the spring field-work prep. I remember it well.

Off-topic so I won't belabor, but you mentioned "didn't fit" in the shop, reminds me of how my dad was able to fit and arrange a large # of implements in our main machine shed.

Probably had twice as many things in there than seemed humanly possible (and almost all accessible without having to move anything else to get to it).

Other stuff that didn't work he could improvise with in a room off our shop and another in a corn crib.

Could be separate topic for an ***official farm memories thread*** at some point.

That sounds familiar.

So am I the only here who collected pogs and put them in my miniature Apollo 13 from Hardee’s?

Nope. My kids did too. Have a bunch of them upstairs.

I never had the sex talk. My parents maybe were just tired at that point. At school, they finally told the girls about menstruation towards the end of sixth grade when nearly everyone had already started. I only found out from a friend who started hers in fourth grade and freaked out thinking she was dying. Then I went to the public library to learn the grim truth. So I never had the sex talk and made my husband talk to the five boys. Maybe that’s why I have no grandchildren.

I never detassled corn.
I grew up on a farm in a rural area and I think almost all the other kids did.
I would have because I would have loved to have some money.
Looking back I just I had no way of knowing about it. Or how to sign up or get hired to do it.

(Also, we only had 3 channels until I was 15 and we got "Educational TV" which is what they called IPTV back then.)
