Not my fave probably, but interesting. There is a character named Stee Jans in the book The Elfstones of Shannara.

Also, completely agree with the title-Holden Caufield is a truly awful character. I can’t understand how Catcher in the Rye is considered a great American novel. The entire book is a whiny little **** doing nothing but being a whiny little ****.

I’m not a huge fan of “The Hunger Games” series, but I like quite a few character names:

Katniss Everdeen
Primrose Everdeen
Haymitch Abernathy
Effie Trinket
Coriolanus Snow
Thresh

Man, rereading it as an adult really gives you perspective. I think it is a great work of nuance, and that I think it gives teens and youth a sense of togetherness in their loneliness and angst.

But as an adult - dude, stop pissing on your own shoes.

Dickens was into the names. In addition to Ebenezer Scrooge, Mr. Fezziwig, Charity Pecksniff, Sgt. Buzfuz, Luke Honeythunder, Paul Sweedlepipe, Bayham Badger, Anne Chickenstalker, Wilkins Micawber, Aunt Betsy Trotwood, Martin Chuzzlewit, Rogue Riderhood, Wackford Squeers, Abel Magwitch, Canon Crisparkle, Mr. Sowerberry, the Spottletoes, Affery Flintwinch, and countless others come to mind. Kind of hard to find a name that isn’t a bit weird. Personally, I named a goldfish Mr. Fezziwig.

Artemus Gordon. Named my first pet cat as a child after him.

“This is Spinal Tap” has a bunch, even counting only secondary/cameo/off-screen names:
Artie Fufkin
Sir Denis Eton-Hogg
Duke Fame
Lt. Bob Hookstratten
John “Stumpy” Pepys
Eric “Stumpy Joe” Childs
Peter "James" Bond
Joe “Mama” Besser
Ross MacLochness, Ronnie Pudding, Denny Upham ...
Great movie.

I read it as an angry, angsty 15 year old-supposedly the target demographic. Absolutely despised it to the point of telling my English teacher to give me an extension and a new book to read, because my book report was going to be what a terrible piece of crap that book was.

Thanks to @cyclones500 for this topic!

What are your favorite fictional character names (can be in any form - tv, movies, books)?

A few of my favorites:
- Inigo Montoya - Princess Bride
- Veruca Salt, Charlie & Chocolate Factory
- Egon Spangler

What are yours?
* Dave Robicheaux is a Cajun police detective in novels by James Lee Burke.
* Jack Reacher is an ex-Army drifter in novels by Lee Child.
* Virgil Flowers is a law enforcement detective in James Sandford novels. Sandford is also known for another character, Lucas Davenport, who is Flowers' boss and the hero of the Prey series books by Sandford, but I don't care for those books. Flowers is just a more colorful character to me.
* Bob Lee Swagger is a former U.S. Marine sniper in novels by Stephen Hunter
