Angie is gone today and I DMed her this topic. What odd type of art do you have that others may not. Here is my example.

I loved Calvin and Hobbes when Bill Watterson retired I saved the last Sunday comic that was printed, It was Calvin and Hobbes walking thru the forest they come to the top of the hill hop on the sled and take off with Calvin saying "It's a magical world Hobbes ol buddy lets go exploring. "

I saved that and got it framed and matted it isn't signed or anything but I really liked Calvin and Hobbes so I had it done though it's value is probably zero. So what is some art work stuff that you've got valuable or not the only thing that counts is that you like it.

I had a floppy shirt signed by Duane that I finally had to let go because it worn out. Not sure if this qualifies but it was art to me.

My wife loves weird faces, the weirder the better. We have all kinds of little statues and planters, etc that have misshapen heads with missing teeth, etc. She also loves Chris Vance artwork, so we have a bunch of those on our walls (example below).

I have an original print, signed by the artist, of Van Halen’s 1984 album art. The angel smoking the pack of cigarettes.

There is an artist in LA known as The Shag that does “Modern” artwork. He did a limited edition set of masks for San Diego Comic Con for SDCC 2020. The pandemic cancelled the con, so he sold the limited edition mask online. The character he created, and mask, matches my name. So I have this large box with the mask displayed, hanging on the wall that has my name on it. It kinda looks like those late 70’s or 80’s kids Halloween costume boxes. You know the plastic mask and plastic suit folded underneath?

Some vintage advertising pieces.

Ad art was looked down on for years, but there is genuine artistic merit and creativity in a lot of those things.

An otherwise struggling artist could earn a living doing commercial art versus starving or working in some other profession.

We have a small collection of oil painting from Caribbean vacations.
Most islands they are pretty easy to find and barter to get them for 2/3 initial price.

It's debatable if one would consider this art, but we've had two different t-shirt quilts made. One is a baby blanket from our daughter's clothes/Halloween costumes/sports jerseys. The other is an ISU one that consists of various ISU shirts, concert shirts from our time at ISU and a couple intramural champion shirts (humble brag).

I have a full-size poster of the Grace Under Pressure album artwork. How I wish it were signed!

My wife and I love Story People by a family out of Decorah. We have a number of prints and "sculptures" in the house. We used their box set of greeting cards for wedding invites, and even painted the nursery (now my office!) in a similar style!

I think it was on Imgur, I saw pictures of this artist, Leonid Afremov. I found his website and bought a handful of his paintings. He paints with palette knife and they are so colorful. He sells so many, they won't ever be worth more than what I paid, but they really brighten the rooms I have them in.

I think I have a Story People print somewhere in Storage. The new house doesn't lend itself to stuff on the walls as much as the old house.

Our movie room is painted orange and has five Story People on it!

I have a lot of embroidery art made by me or others. One of my favorites is an eyeball made in a black and white ink drawing where the artist stitched in the colors of the iris.

Honestly, I do about 80% of the art in our house. I think creating is fun.

I have a couple cross stitch pieces that I did hung up in our house. One is 52,000 stitches so I'm proud of that one. Also have pictures we took on vacations that I really love. And then there is a fairly well known painter/artist who lives just down our street who has such lovely primarily abstract art and I keep wanting to buy some of her pieces but can never decide what for where!

Behind you
Not really art, but it's framed so I'll throw it out there... I have framed prints of pages 1 and 3 of the Declaration of Independence in rough draft form, written in Thomas Jefferson's hand with many edits/deletions/revisions/etc. written in by Ben Franklin and John Adams. Think it's pretty cool seeing some of the lines originally included that were taken out, words crossed out and suggested changes by Franklin and Adams, etc., all in their handwriting. Yes, I'm a dork.

LOL the only artists I know I can't afford their stuff. It's the sister and her husband of my college roommate. They worked for a long time before they made it into the able to live comfortably stage. She actually had a exhibition scheduled in Amsterdam(?) before Covid crushed it. Don't know if it ever got rescheduled.

This particular artist is very affordable, imo. We went to Art Fair on the Square one time and it was beautiful, beautiful stuff but price tags were 3 and more often 4 digits and I was afraid to breathe in their booths

Yep the D.M. art fair is the same way the stuff at the fair grounds I could afford but the stuff downtown was way out of my league there was a girl flying a kite on 3 or 4 canvasses so a couple of canvasses was just like a line across it it was like $9,000 yeah no thanks.
