Robins, Iowa
Dekkers throws the ball better than I would have imagined. He literally flicks it but has so much zip on it. I can see why he got so much hype!
That is what I noticed too. On the second 33 yard TD pass he scrambled a little and just flicked a perfect pass to X like he was tossing a 5 yard screen pass. I came away very impressed after watching the replay. He did have that one stupid pass, but all in all, very good game.

Okay. How about the special teams play/gaffs in those games? How about the fact that we haven’t turned iowa over in 6(?) games In a row? One of the TOs last year was through X’s hands.

I’m not suggesting that Brock doesn’t deserve some blame, but he shouldn’t be singled out. Clones beat iowa next week if we win the TO margin, win field position, STs play is strong, etc.; not just because Dekkers is at QB.

I am happy to compare their careers when Hunter is done.
yes, you are right, it shouldn't be all on Brock as our special teams have sucked in the last two meetings as well. I wasn't trying to put it all on him, just pointing out that he has made a lot of mistakes against Iowa.

Blake Clark holds the extra points. He did it last year also I believe.

If Iowa gets Johnson, Ragaini and/or Gavin Williams back, that’ll help them out.

I thought our defense was shaky enough yesterday that we could struggle some even with Petras back there.

No boneheaded plays and we have a good chance to win.

Interesting that Verdon didn't play. Any news on that, maybe I missed?

Interesting use of the TEs today. They weren’t targeted much and we mostly played single TE sets until the 2nd half when Rus and Klotz were in together for run blocking. Basically 2 H Backs used most often on the same side.

Against Iowa I hope we play 1 TE or no TEs much of the time. We won’t beat them with a physical game in the box. Need to spread them out with 4 WR sets. Dekkers seems to have the vision and arm strength to leverage it.
I don't disagree but that is also literally what Iowa wants teams to do.

If you play a two high shell as much as Iowa does - or traditionally does - you're daring teams to try to pass.

I think we can pass on them but we have to commit to trying to establish the run otherwise Iowa's defensive line might eat the offensive line alive if we allow them to just T-off and rush the QB.

-It’s so refreshing watching Dekkers effortlessly throw the ball down the field. Purdy was great, but we were limited in our offensive capabilities at times with his arm strength.

-Defense needs to make some improvements, but where we were lacking doesnt seem like it’s changed much from the last few years. Need to stop the QB scramble and improve tackling. Also felt like we left a lot of guys open on the back end but not sure how much of that is Heacock running a pretty basic defense against an inferior opponent

-Felt like every time I tried to watch McDonald he was getting held

-Norton is a dog

My biggest takeaway was how comfortable Dekkers looked in the pocket. He didn't get much pressure, but still seemed like his pocket presence was great. Will get a much better test of that next week. Also, that pass he threw to X in the north end zone was a thing of beauty. Into a strong wind and he put it in the perfect spot with touch. Crazy how much the wind yesterday DIDN'T affect our passing.

Pleasantly surprised with Brock. He's shown flashes before so I guess it shouldn't have been unexpected, but he looked good. I think everyone was expecting one of the other rbs to win the job at some point but Brock may be the guy this year.

The line finally got a push in the second half. Not sure what they were doing in the first half.

Two of his six incomplete passes could have been caught. Wouldn't have been easy catches but the ball was right where it needed to be.

I was at the game and when we punted it seemed like he took a lot of time to get the punt off..... YES- was that just me or is he slow getting the ball off? In watching it, I thought for was sure it was going to be blocked. Punter will most definitely get a punt blocked, unless this is corrected!
