Offense:
- Xavier Hutchinson looked as good as I have seen an ISU receiver look in a game since, maybe ever. He isn't as tall as Lazard but has excellent speed.
If we aren't throwing to him 10-12 times next week against you know who, we aren't doing it right. He could be in the running for the Blitnikoff if he has a few more games like that.
- Hunter Dekkers: what a debut. He was composed, didn't run out of the pocket and panic. I love on all the deep throws so many passes were just in stride and smooth, and on the crossers he put some feather touch on the ball. Going to be a great player for us folks. He belongs. He looked fantastic.
- Jihrehl: so happy for him, over 100 yds and showed some burst in second half. Although against Iowa I think we need to throw to set up the run.
- Deshawn Hanika: he looks like a bigger receiver almost than TE but showed quick feet on his TD.
- Demetrius Stanley scores a TD on the bomb from Becht if he isn't held. Also had a nice catch I love this pickup. He has wheels. Wilson had a long catch as well.
- Cartevious Norton: serious bummer he pulled the hammy but he clearly will be a GUY for us down the line. Reminds me a lot of David M.

Defense:
- Jeremiah Cooper plays with reckless abandon and hits hard, in a good way
- Will McDonald wasn't himself today. I hope that changes in 7 days. He should be up to the task.
- the LB's as some have said were not quality today. Too many qb scrambles where they looked lost. I wonder if we start playing McClaughlin more as he looks like a quality athlete.
- Myles Purchase: two times they tried to throw deep he ran the receiver out bounds perfectly without doing pass interference. I feel great about him and Tampa
- Please, please, please. Against Iowa SELL out to stop the run and put 8 guys in the box. Iowa has zero down field threat, Raigaini is hurt and Jones is now on Purdue. I have zero respect for the skill guys and pass game.

Oh if you want some free comedy check out a Hawkeye board. Holy schnike are they fed up with Brian "constipation face" Ferentz.

Since I don’t get ESPN+, l listened to the game on the radio. It appeared that in the first half, SEMO loaded up against the run, forcing us to beat them with the pass - which we did. In the second half, they played us more honest, and we beat them with the run. So pleasantly surprised that we didn’t lay an egg like we normally do in season openers. Of course, SEMO is a very bad team.

Once again, Heacock opens the game with a very generous defense, before tightening things up later on. Before today, I wouldn’t have given us a chance in Iowa City. But now I do - a chance.

Didn't see any of the game and only heard to very end. Can someone comment on the pass defense? It seems like they gave up a lot of yard today. I am assuming we had a lot of subs in there at points of the game.

Yes and no- we were not share right away in secondary. Played a lot of off of-coverage. Second half was much better.

Offensive line was dominate today against a lesser opponent. Little pressure on Dekkers and better run blocking in the second half.

The running game was 10x better the second half. Which is relatively common as the DL wears down. The key is have the lead so you can keep running.

Yeah and even coming out of halftime they asserted themselves.

There were some good things out there in that aspect in other positions. .

Dekkers throws look effortless. He seemed like he’s been starting for three years. Was surprised how much he stayed in the pocket and watching him and Rocco playing catch Rocco appears to have a pretty good arm as well. Rocco had two perfect passes which both weren’t completed thanks to pi’s. Brock seemed to start slow but came out the second half in beast mode. I think Silas is a beast and should get more reps. Overall very deep at rb. Hutchinson is a stud, Noel is a future stud. The offense seems to be alot different than last year. Very up tempo and get to the line quickly. Pass dominate in the first, a lot more running in the second half. Definitely is where I came out of this game worried. I’m assuming we didn’t get any pressure on their qb because we didn’t want to show our cards for next week? We need to get more pressure on the qb or were in trouble. I was concerned about our rush attack and still slightly am but feel a little better after the second half. Lastly I actually hate that Iowa played so terrible today. Makes me more uncomfortable for next week lol

Interesting use of the TEs today. They weren’t targeted much and we mostly played single TE sets until the 2nd half when Rus and Klotz were in together for run blocking. Basically 2 H Backs used most often on the same side.

Against Iowa I hope we play 1 TE or no TEs much of the time. We won’t beat them with a physical game in the box. Need to spread them out with 4 WR sets. Dekkers seems to have the vision and arm strength to leverage it.

I thought SEMO’s Oline looked big and athletic, imo the strength of their team. Good test for our guys. I think McDonald gives Iowa trouble again.
