Thought this might be a fun idea for night games. Not sure if we have the lighting system, but thought it might be pretty sweet if we simulated a thunderstorm pregame (i.e. turned off the lights / video screens, maybe simulating like a power outage -- or have the screens get all fuzzy, and then flash the lights on for lightning strikes). Then start the siren + weather alert before the team enters.

I love this idea but I feel like it would require a pretty substantial financial investment as the stadium lights are not easily turned off and back on.

I know places like Alabama have done extensive upgrades to the lighting systems to make this feasible and it looks awesome (they use theirs when they score primary if I recall correctly).

I am super on board and agree it would be amazing for our gametime atmosphere!

Testifying
There's been some incredible football stadium light shows recently that I've seen. Nebby, Bama, etc.

That may be cool for basketball, if you could get one of those video systems that project on to the court.

For football, you'd only be able to do something like that for night games. Also, I am pretty sure those lights at Jack Trice, you can't turn them on and off like you can at your house. They take a while to cool down and warm up again.

Could this be done in Hilton though? I know they spent a ton of money on being able to black out the court, and have lights come back on really quickly.

I think I saw like UCLA or Alabama had a system that did this for football on TV

edit: missed Pablo's post that mentioned that

btw thunderstruck is the worst -- I don't know why it's in all of these intros

(oh yeah and what we used to do with smoke on the water was trash)

they should let the fans run out on to the field before game and run to the other end of the stadium

that seems so fun and logical, yeah!

Eventually the lighting system will be upgraded to LEDs that will allow for those special effects. High schools are making those changes as the lighting systems become outdated, so I assume there will be an upgrade eventually.

Keep in mind that flashing lights may cause issues for people with autism and others. The local high school football stadium here in Odessa,TX upgraded there lights in order to make them 'dance' after a touchdown. No one was told ahead of time that the lights would 'dance' since they wanted it to be a surprise for the fans. At halftime, the PA announcer read a statement about the flashing dancing lights and that those in attendance that might have physical issues should be aware and take appropriate personal action.
