I think it likely will be, but you can always drive in and the parking attendants will tell you for sure. Its $20 to park there. Parking along the streets in the neighborhoods west of campus would be an option too. Parking is legal on one side of the street, but both sides will be filled up. The parking ticket is $15 or something like that.

Full by 9? I doubt it. We used to park in the Hilton/Scheman lot each week for years and I don't remember it being full even when we were having sell outs of the stadium. Maybe only for an Iowa game. If someone has experienced it being full (not just closed because of rain, All-State Music, or volleyball) in the last two seasons, let us know.

That is used for Alumni band parking as well and I thought I heard they had several hundred this year.

I would spend $20 and park in the G lots. (Probably avoid G2/3 with the family, so any of the other brown lots on the map below)
Give the family a true gameday experience of showing them the tailgating atmosphere.
I would arrive in the lots no later than 9:30 or so. That’ll give you enough time to comfortably make your way to the stadium and take in 30-45 mins of pregame. Incoming traffic will be slow at that time, so plan on that. You can never arrive too early on a sunny gameday.

Will you be able to get into the G lots 45 min before kickoff when the weather looks fantastic?

If it's in the budget, I'd get a hotel with a pool Friday night somewhere closer to Ames. I imagine Ames is full by now. Des Moines area should have plenty of choices.
Des moines is probably pretty full. They have Preseason Nationals going on with over 3000 wrestlers
