Did the Huxley to Woodward ride yesterday. We stopped at the Flat Tire and someone told us to watch for glass in the second tunnel. No glass thankfully. On the way back from Woodward we notice a few riders were stopping in the first tunnel. Then we noticed the mess on the concrete. Someone had dropped a jar of spaghetti sauce from the top of the tunnel.

We saw glass shards were everywhere. From the looks of it riders had gone through it and didn’t even slowdown. We stopped broke off a couple tree branches and swept all the glass off. Took us about 15 minutes along with the help of another couple. People stopped to asked what happened and thanked us for cleaning it up. Except for the idiot that goes, “I don’t get punctures in my tires” as he just rode through. Glad no one got hit by the jar that some idiot dropped!

He must have solid rubber tires like the ancient bike I learned to ride on a million years ago.

Okay, I exaggerated, it was only a thousand years ago.

Another day without crazy wind! What weather wizardry is this? Took advantage while the weather was nice.

Might get shutout for the rest of the week, between a couple of doctor appts and rain forecast almost everyday I'll have a hard time keeping up with all you other biker peeps.

I have built-in rides now with the HS MTB season kicking off now for my kids. Took our group up to Cameron Pass last Saturday and rode up to Thunder Pass which borders RMNP. Kids got a kick out of the dad joke about peeing on one side vs the other (Atlantic vs Pacific watersheds) and the views were awesome.

I've not done the L100 but know people that have. One friend doing it this year was going hard for the buckle (meet a time cutoff) but DNF at mile 63 and then had his bike stolen.

The hardest ride on a bike I've done is the Double Triple Bypass. 120 miles and 10k feet of climbing on Saturday and then turn around and ride back on Sunday.

What a kick in the shorts!!

I have a thing about not paying a lot of money for a t-shirt that I can do anytime at my pace. Most of them are lottery now and pulling in all these ex-pro riders so I would like to check it out and watch.

HS will be racing Leadville in 2 weeks for their first race, but I don't think its any of the same course.

Poop. Flat tire but at home before ride. Hate rear flats as I seem to get everything out of sorts gear-wise on rear changes.

Edit: Thanks to whoever suggested this type tire tool. Too lazy to read back to see who it was.

Well geeze, now I might have to buy one

Worked great to pull that last 10" or so of tire on the rim without risking a tube pinch. Only downside is it's a bit too long to fit in my little underseat tool bag. Think I'll cut the handle off by whatever length will fit.

Tapped out August with 352 miles which is a lot for me considering it's just urban fitness rides. Will easily make my 1,000 mile season goal "floor" . Will probably shoot for 1,200 if October turns out to be "Octember" for weather. October is always a wildcard.

Almost broke my no crash streak yesterday. Biking around Bde Maka Ska (lake) on the separate bike path. Was eyeing this gal standing just off the path to my right who was chatting with some guy. Sure enough she abruptly turns and takes two steps onto the path. I yelled and braked like crazy, tree to the left and the guy still to the right so not a lot of wiggle room. Nearly put the bike down but did not hit her. She was profusely apologetic, if a bit startled. I told her it was cool and it's park and I have to watch for peeps to. Guy was cool to and not some sort of confrontation ******* wanting to blame me. I probably was biking a bit too fast for the lake trail but it was workday afternoon and there was almost nobody on the bike path other than me. If I'd been paying less attention or been distracted I would have hit her. :(

BTW, biked through two large groups of Canada Geese on the path a mile and 1/2 mile before this. Did not hit them. They hissed at me, I hissed back. They usually move if you bike right at/through them, if you slow down they will just block you. Just have a foot ready to kick if necessary for the true thug geese. ;)

Geese are dumb. I also hiss at them to get them to move. I've seen the aftermath of a cyclist hitting a goose that was trying to fly away. Feathers everywhere

Yeah, that's my main concern is if they decide to fly. But these are urban lake geese, fat and lazy so they don't fly much at all. I am a bird loving bird photography hobbyist but pretty much hate urban geese. They are the English Sparrow or Starlings of waterfowl.

Not feeling the weather love right now. Biked the other day and 62 feel cold after average ride temp being 82 this summer. Rain today with 20mph wind and 30 mph gusts. Same tomorrow except even windier without the rain.

Should have brought the bike to Ames today. It was gorgeous started out a little cool warmed right up, gusty winds by about 2:30 though. Everything was perfect in Ames except for the final score of the FB game.

Mulling over what to wear. Always knew how much and what to wearing running. However, biking on days like today always throws me off, I am going to be too warm or too cold. It's sunny and 62 but wind is 20 mph and gusts are well over 30 mph. The winds going to suck bad enough without me misfiring on the "chill" part.

Whatever I pick will be incorrect.

Edit: Guessed right but it was still a bit ugly. NWS recorded 25 mph wind and gusts to 43 mph for my mid-ride time. Ack. Compounded frustration by having Strav app paused for a good portion of my ride. At least had the good old Cateye bike computer data for my biking geek sheet.

Damn, still have not warmed up after shorter ride late this afternoon. Note to self, dress warmer next ride.

Checked greek spread sheet and it was 70's and 80's for every ride last fall. Not summer September right now. Not acclimated, felt cold.
