As a former coach I can say you know what kind of talent you have on a team and which games are really "winnable" games every year. This year KSU, KU, TTU, Texas, OSU and WVU (given their track record of falling off in the second half of the season recently) are all winnable games. They all might be 40%/60% us them games but winnable. The other three are 5% chances only bc crazier crap has happened.

It makes Toledo an absolute must win. 1-2 in nonconference and there will be no bowl for sure. Getting 4 of the 6 winnable games is probably in the 40% chance range. Getting 5 of the 6 probably 20%. Gotta get this one.

Is there anything I can do to get your paycheck? Ya now, since you're willing to give it up for your entertainment. Nothing weird please.

Texas is improved? Improved from what?

Sure. I look at it this way. They are about on par with where they finished last season. Difference is they are less experienced. And the move to Heard at QB, I think we'll see improvement throughout the season. They'll be much better than us by the end of October. In a lot of ways they are like ISU. Decent defense and terrible offense. But loads more talent.

This. They are absolutely awful this year. This is the next worse team on the schedule left after Kansas.

Yes they flopped at Notre Dame, but they scored 42 points on Saturday. Until we show a pulse on offense don't know how anybody can circle that as a W. It's still Texas. Lots of 4* on that roster.

Not going to beat Snyder. Just isn't going to happen. OSU has lots of talent and will be improved this year. We'll see about WVU.

I think WVU is the most talented of the three honestly. Holgerson will just find a way to give up games in the second half of the year. OSU has had some injuries of good players. I'm not sure they will be as good as they would have possibly been (granted by the time we play them we could be in that situation too). KSU just isn't that talented. We just have to stop beating ourselves against them because they def won't do it for us.

Did I miss the part where we won a conference game lately? This years team is no better or worse comparatively to the teams of the past few seasons in comparison to the rest of the conference and it definitely isn't improved enough to make a jump from ZERO wins last season in conference to four wins this season.

Even if we win vs. Toledo getting to 4 wins is conference is a pipe dream. If you think this is going to happen then you think Paul Rhoads is going to be National COTY. It's just not going to happen, I'm sorry. It sucks for everyone.

Not making myself miserable. I am resigned to the fact that ISU will be lucky to win 4 games. The way this coaching staff is approaching the games so far it seems as though they know they are coming back for 2016. No urgency. If they don't care, neither do I.

I understand you being unhappy with the state of the program, but to insinuate the coaches don't care is by far the dumbest thing I have ever read. Just because you may not see eye to eye with what they are doing doesn't mean they don't care.

I find your lack of faith disturbing.... :twitcy:

Hey look, an obvious OPTIMISM thread to talk about possible ways to get to 6 wins. Some might think people who think it isn't possible would just post that in one of the hundred negative football threads, but of course not. I don't get it...

I really don't understand why so many people consider the K State game as unwinnable as TCU/Baylor/OU. So Rhoads hasn't beat them, he also hadn't won @ Nebraska or @ Texas... until he did?

If they don't have Waters & Lockett last year, they don't win IMO. Not a whole lot else has changed besides those 2, so yeah I think it's possible.

We lost a close game to a rival & haven't been able to run the ball worth a damn, but I'm not ready to give up on the season after 2 weeks. I think our most likely wins left are KU, Toledo, Tech, K State & Texas. At this point I'd predict 4-5, but 6 is far from impossible.

When the season began I figured we would either be 5-0 or 4-1 after the first 5 games. I did have us beating Iowa and losing to Tech, however its only week 2 and I swore I saw a bunch of people jumping off of Saylorville Bridge Saturday on my drive home. I still feel we can get to 6 possibly 7 wins this year.
Toledo W 2-1
KU W 3-1
Tech W 4-1 Kool-Aid drinking still, but were only into week 3 so I can say this.
TCU L 4-2
Baylor L 4-3
Texas W 5-3
OU L 5-4
OSU ? 6-4 Like I state previously, only in week 3 so can say this stuff now.
K-State W 7-4
WVU L 7-5

Definitely winnable games just all depends on how we respond the rest of the season.

I am highly doubtful it can happen without beating Iowa.

I still don't know if Iowa is a good team and we are not too shabby (sans crap run game), or we will come to find out that Iowa is just average and we suck hard again.

This Saturday will be very telling for me. If we come out strong and play like we did in the first half last week, and do it for the whole game, I might start to feel better about this team. I still think even with that win, 6 wins total won't happen.

sadly, I expect 2-10 at best after watching what I saw last week.
