Paramount gin

$7 for the bottle

$15 for a handle

Not bad for the price. I've had it with cranberry juice before and it's pretty solid

In college..... eh. There's not that bad.

fwiw, some of the places I hung out in undergrad, the drink of choice was a couple of $2 handles of vodka mixed with lemonade mix.

ALMOST anything can be made to taste better, as long as you have the right mixers with it. ALMOST. That beer with maple syrup **** in it is just plain nasty.

dude- martini was my first experience with gin, I preferred it dirty (lots of olive juice)- the saltiness covered the cheap gin taste.

As I got more into gin, I would say gordon's is good enough- lots of lime and on the rocks, you dont even need tonic.

a little off topic, but I like trader joe's vodka of the gods- 12.99 for a 1.75.

I feel qualified to answer this one. Bombay sapphire is the only way to go.

The only appropriate mixer is tonic. I prefer canada dry to schweppes.

To save some cash, just go with a 1/5 of bombay. If you make it thru that, the least expensive vodka w/ juice will be fine.

It is, of course, each to his or her own taste. For me, Bombay (Vickie, as my brother calls it... [look at the bottle!]) is quite good. I prefer Quintessential, but it is really hard to find. Cool bottle though. Also Hendricks is quite fine, and does taste interesting. But again, your mileage may vary!

Bon apetit!

Tanqueray or Bombay Saphire are my favorites. You can probably get those for under 30 bucks. Cyclone Liquors was usually pretty cheap (if it's even still there. I haven't lived in Ames for 6 years). Get that and mix about 50/50 with tonic water on ice. As you drink gin more often, you can increase the gin to tonic ratio.

New Amsterdam is also pretty good, for a straight gin, and you can probably buy a bottle for about 16 bucks. If you get that for gin and tonics, though, also pick up a bottle of Rose's Lime Juice (2-3 bucks). Mix the gin an tonic the same, but put in a splash of lime juice, to turn it just the lightest shade of green.

If you have never tried Gin & Tonic you must try it. Add lime. I wouldn't be scared off because of a few who don't like it. Everybody has different taste.

I'm thinking about getting some for the next couple of weekends. I have heard there is a big difference between good gin and bad gin, which is making me nervous about the purchase. So, I was wondering if anyone could suggest a certain brand that they have had a good experience with. Also, being a college student, if it's over $30 for a handle probably won't be getting it...

Thanks in advance.

Seagrams is definitely the way to go. Good price and good taste.
