Not exactly sure.
In laws took me to a concert of his. Knew a few of his songs but not many. Basically a guy singing and strumming an acoustic guitar. Did a solid job for what he was.

I'm a gen Xer that grew up listening to 80s rock, hair bands, and 90's grunge. That said, there's always been something stirring about Wichita Lineman and Galveston that have always blown me away.

I hope you're joking. Guy was extremely talented.

Just watched a brief segment on the news about Glen Campbell, who passed away today. He has an amazing body of work, and they showed a clip of him when he was awarded a grammy for lifetime achievement. It segued into him performing his signature song, Rhinestone Cowboy. The camera panned the crowd - front row, Sir Paul McCartney singing along with everyone else. Kinda cool.
Campbell was big in the late sixties, as kind of a crossover counterpoint to the hard rock bands of the era. Had his own variety show...played amazing guitar licks...RIP, Wichita Lineman.

I posted this elsewhere, but it's more appropriate here.

Good Lord, you guys can read a lot in. He basically had no other band at this show except a drummer, part of the time, and another guitar player part time. He did a lot of the show with just him playing an acoustic guitar because it was a small crowd. Not knowing a lot of his stuff I thought it was a solid performance for what he was that night, a man singing and playing a guitar. I just don't get into unplugged type of performances. Now go untwist those panties.

I've always thought his performance in True Grit was underrated. He does such a good job as a guy clearly faking it in the film it looks like he was faking it overall.

Different strokes. I like the unplugged acts - especially when they can really sing and play. The hyperactive lip syncing onstage sex acts don't do much for me. Half of the modern pop artists can't carry a tune without auto-tune...

I like the blending of instruments, singing is not something that catches me, no matter how great they may be. I can listen to an orchestra or a small quartet, but no opera (to me singing gets in the way). Like you said different strokes.

No mention of Gentle On My Mind?

As a young boy waiting with family for the double feature to start at the Hilltop Drive In
movie...

We're there waiting for dusk. They're playing music through those little speakers we all put on the window to hear the audio of the movie.

One of the songs, and the only one I remember today, was Gentle On My Mind. I guess what struck me even as a child was the use of "Junkyards"in the lyrics of a love song.

RIP Glen

He actually played with an orchestra quite often.

He was guitar player on 60's song Tequila. I wasn't a big fan as a kid but developed a lot of respect for his musical abilities. Quite a wild man until eventually sobering up.

anyone see him in Ames a couple of years ago? He was great. Amazing he went on a 150 date tour with his Alzheimers condition. His daughter helped him by holding the lyrics up for him. Anyway, it was a great show.

Campbell, before and even during his early solo career, was a notable studio musician and part of the famed Wrecking Crew. He played on numerous 60's hits, including a number of cuts on the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. Hard to argue with a guy who can maintain quality in his craft over six decades.

Couple of my favorites were Everyday Housewife, and By The Time I Get To Phoenix. Both kind of sad though.
