So, as we look to the future, here are some (partially) unanswered questions:

  • Was Iowa's defense really "all that?"
  • Are we concerned about our lack of production in the red zone?
  • How can we shore up punts?
  • The single field goal was kind of low and shaky -- how will that progress?
maybe the punter shouldn't take 3-4 steps. 2 steps and punt.

Going to need to clean things up before playing power 5 level teams. A good coaching staff will be able to do something with those turnovers we gave up.

I’m nervous when he runs. He runs like Lanning at times and trucked one of the Iowa backers. I like it but Becht needs some time to season.
I know this is crazy talk but I actually believe the depth-chart and think Cook is actually #2. Becht got the garbage time as he is the future starter. We won't really know for sure unless Dekkers goes down. So I hope we don't have to find out.

May have to live with a few interceptions from a young Qb. Love that he is willing to get the ball out, and hope that confidence doesn’t get stifled by cautionary coaching. Just needs a little refinement, as I think he has the potential to become an assassin. Its a journey. On to game III.
1 interception was the receiver's fault. The other 2 were both on deep outs to the wide side of the field. Even with Dekkers' arm talent, that's going to be a tough completion in tight coverage. He just needs to learn when that route is really there vs when to go to the next progression or throw the ball away.

A result like SEMO would be nice against Ohio. Just to allow more 2nd/3rd string guys to get game snaps. What I would like see happen against Ohio:
  • Punt team gets things figured out.
  • A little more passing between hashes. Would like to see some 15+ yard completion down middle. A couple deep middle passes would be nice.
  • On defense would like to see more consistency from pass rush. Maybe more press cover from CB's.

I believe the Iowa defense is still very, very good. They will likely, however, get worn down as the season progresses if their offense can't figure out how to give them at least a little help.

One thing I noticed is that he (three times) tried to string a run out around the end and got snuffed. In HS he probably takes that end run, but against better competition he's setting himself up for some hard gang tackling. Sometimes it's just best to pick a seem and dive forward for a couple yards to live another day.

Double coverage on a wideout is definitely something he should see easily and check down.

It will be a long season for the hoks if they don't get it figured out on offense. Injuries already taking a toll and this will steamroll the defense as the season continues...they were on the field nearly 40 minutes on Saturday. Not sorry...

I told my dad that he runs like he still has that extra 20 lbs. I'd prefer that he get the yards and go down over trying to run over linebackers lol.
