I think it gets old when a kid decides to not come to ISU how many people bag on him as being "mid major" or "not good enough for the Big XII", etc. Some poeple had best wishes for Grant so it isn't everyone. But do we really need to stoop that low when someone decides to not choose ISU. Take the high road.

I'm not so sure that it was Grant's choice. Your point stands, however.

Not applicable in this case.

I wish Grant the best and think he will do well.
I just didn't see a good fit here.
PG; we're looking for a faster player
SG; already have SC and Babb, aren't they similar players?
SF; once again speed ala Ejim and Cook

Maybe...Maybe not...however, the general postings in this thread had many positive things to say when it was suspect ISU was in contention:

Grant Gibbs to visit Iowa State - Page 4 - CycloneFanatic

Now, it is 180 degrees opposite.
90 degrees at best.
I would not expect there to be too much bashing of a player until it is known ISU is not interested. Imo that thread was more justifying potential interest from Fred than it was about Gibbs. Add the fact that it was a "mutual" decision and...how close are your ties to Gibbs?

We are recruiting better Euro players anyway.

Apparently some of you need to go back to first grade and learn how to read again. In the comment below that I made, I never mentioned the players being Big 12 talent or being able to beat ISU. Some of you guys on here are just a bit touchy:

Ingle, McDermott, and Gibbs should be a decent core group to have at Creighton.

Doubtful. McKnight>Doug, Ejim>Ingle, Phillips>Gibbs

You know, I heard this sort of stuff all last year. I understand the Cyclone optimism gene kicks in, in the off season, but lets be realistic for once. ISU is going to be extremely raw these first few years. You arent just going to have these new guys come in and turn things around. Success at ISU will not happen overnight. Creighton is already has the tools. Little Mac and Gibbs alone will help take this team to where they want to be IMO.

Not if McKnight/Godfrey>DMcD and Phillips/Babb>Gibbs.
McD had teams with better players than DMcD and Gibbs at ISU and could not beat MVC teams.

I thought Gibbs was a PG; and we need a PG desperately. Not next year but the year after, when both DG and Anderson are gone. Gibbs sits out next year while they are seniors and has a chance to start the following year. How is this not a good fit?

This is all assuming that he can play at the B12 level. He was rated a 4 star right out of HS right? Any 4 star ought to be able to do so at this level especially by his JR year. One doesn't get rated this high or go to a high level program like Gonz if his talent isn't legit.

So quite ragging on Gibbs. If he doesn't come here ... so be it. But it is a good fit and we CAN use him. Come people, MD is gone. Lets try to be a little positive here. OK?

The problem CU Later has is their coach takes longer to train up the players. For one thing, it takes two years to feel comfortable with his playbook.

You are pretty out of the loop.
-Most say Gibbs is not a true PG at the Big 12 level, and is too similar in position to Babbs.
-ISU ended up passing on Gibbs.
-Many 4-stars end up not living up to their rankings.

Sorry swarthmore, I guess I was relying on ESPN's rating
(23rd best PG) - Grant Gibbs - College Basketball Recruiting 2008 - ESPN

and Scouts rating which rated him 31st best SG but in the description said "Is he a point or a two? We like him as a point guard with great size." - Scout.com: Grant Gibbs Profile

and Grant's profile on Gonzaga team roster page which described him as being "ranked as 19th best point guard in country and 96th best player overall by one scouting service" - Player Bio: Grant Gibbs - GONZAGA OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE

So I guess I was relying on professional ranking/scouting services. I forgot that the people here know more than they do .. sorry for being so far out of the loop. Arg.:jimlad::jimlad::jimlad:

Gibbs was a high ranking combo guard out of high school. This does not mean that two years later he is what ISU needs in a player. Ill trust Fred & Co's current evaluation of the situation over outdated and speculative reports.

I think the players already in place at Creighton are already familiar with his style of play. I will not dispute for a second that McD is an MVC coach and that is where he belongs...that said, I think the MVC is where he will have success again.

Ah...no. Gibbs passed on ISU.

Ah...no. Gibbs passed on ISU.

"Mutual" at best, although I am sure Gibbs told you differently.
