Good for Him. I could see that going well there for him

No offense to Grant. However, the fact that the Barnestormers have him as the QB shows how far down the arena league has fallen. Arena QB's used to be on par with a lot of Canadian football QB's which is one step below the NFL.

The Barnstormers aren't in the Arena League. Haven't been since 2014. AFL is down to 4 teams, from 14 in the Stormers last season. They're now a step (or two) below, in the IFL.

Did not know that. Have not followed them. That makes sense then

Didn't I hear on KXNO once about how the AFL is failing? (probably the reason for the drop from 14 teams to 4).

But the IFL doesn't seem to be "blowing up" either. Only 6 teams mainly based in the midwest: the Barnstormers, Nebraska, Arizona, Sioux Falls, Green Bay, and Cedar Rapids (raise your hand if you knew they had a team... let alone in the same league as the Barnstormers... and former Hawkeye WR Marvin McNutt is in their front office).

That aside, this is awesome for Grant. Especially since he can "do this on the side" along with his coaching. Keeps him playing the game he loves while staying close to home.

There a bunch of regional indoor semi-pro leagues. Another one nearby has Omaha, Sioux City, Sioux Falls, Quad Cities, Kansas City, Bismarck, Salina, and Wichita.

I had no idea. I think they started probably failing when they lost the ESPN contract at one point. Last time I saw the Barnstormers high lights there were hardly any fans in the stands. I figure it's only a matter of time before they fold. When I was younger (25ish) they made the championship game and the whole city was pumped up. Since then it's been down hill.

What's the point of a 4 team league? Why wouldn't they just incorporate some of those IFL teams to have a larger league?

Grant was underrated. Think he should've gotten more of a look under the Rhoads regime, but they were committed to SBR, clinging to that 1-game performance where he looked like a world-beater against the worst team in the Big 12. Nothing against Sam, I just think Grant was a little more talented.

The AFL was on a whole different level, financially. It got to the point where most of the teams folded (or dropped down) because of money issues. I think the AFL technically still has 6 teams, but 2 aren't playing the 2018 season for various reasons.

Personally, I would like to see all of these mid-level/semi-pro leagues consolidate into one big league with regional divisions. It doesn't make a lot of sense for Arizona to be in a league with Iowa/Nebraska teams when there's another league nearby with TX/NM squads. Conversely, the northern teams of that TX/NM league could just as well join up with the Iowa/Nebraska league.

Why not just have a 12-team league with:
Bismarck, Sioux Falls, Omaha, Grand Island, Kansas City, Wichita, Salina, Sioux City, Des Moines, Quad Cities, Green Bay, Cedar Rapids
