From the link:

  • The G7 grass lots will be closed and passholders will be re-routed to the paved lots at Vet Med.
  • There will be NO public parking at Vet Med or Hilton Coliseum. Parking near Hilton is reserved for football passholders and for the volleyball game (Iowa State vs. Baylor at 3 p.m.).
  • Public parking for RVs will be in lots B1/B2 adjacent to the Scheman Building. Lot B1 will be available at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and lot B2 is available at 8:30 p.m. Lots B1/B2 are for RVs ONLY and not regular vehicle parking.
  • Limited RV parking will also be available in the grass lots at 5 a.m.
Currently large portions of the public grass lots are suitable for parking and will be available as conditions permit.

G D it, so there's half the season with no public parking at Hilton - that blows. The neighborhoods to the west have been packed by 3-4 hours before kick. Anyone have any suggestions for better spots, knowing 1) We usually tailgate with friends in C5 and 2) The whole family walks to the car after the game, including 2 young kids. Haunted Forest, maybe?

I wouldn't be surprised if the G7 deal is due in part to due to the murder.

That's a good call. That definitely may have been factored into the decision. Also, I visited a friends tailgate over there during the SDSU Ga.... Tailgate and they were getting some terrible ruts over there and that was before all the traffic of people leaving that day. I imagine that would just get worse and worse if it's wet at all Saturday. I didn't make it over there last week so I don't know what it looked like for the OU game.

I doubt it. G7 should have been closed for SDSU. G7 is completely flat and doesn't drain anywhere. There was a lot of standing water for SDSU and it got tore up bad. Wouldn't take much rain at this point to get more standing water there.

It wasn't bad for the OU game at all.

I drove by the Haunted Forest this morning...standing water in a lot of place just like the SDSU game. We tried to park and got stuck. They gave us our money back.

Are there any safe businesses in the area that someone could park at so they could ride in to vetmed with our group? I've been hearing if you park in the KMart lot they will tow you. What about Lowe's and Sam's? Anyone park in either one of those lots?

I also noticed there is a dirt road/trail running under the interstate that goes right next to vetmed. There are parking lots just on the Southside of the interstate there for CPMI event center. Anyone ever park there and walk under the interstate to the vetmed lots?

I have a feeling the lots for the WV game may be in question.

When they closed G7 for the OU game how did it work for the permit holders to go to Vet Med? Did they only allow people coming from the north to pull into the lot or did they break their own rule and allow cars to make left hand turns?

Akron. G7 was open for OU. I came from the west on 16th and turned left, though I wasn't supposed to :) Screwed up initially and turned at Entrance B. They were very accommodating and traffic wasn't bad at 9am.

I think I could make the decision in the grass lots from here in the Des Moines where we haven’t had the rains like Ames The ground is saturated and will need a week(s) to be drivable. My wetland CRP is full
