Take a page out of McDermott's book and don't even try to rationalize what he was trying to say. He messed up. He owned it right away.

There's more than a select few that would think it's a really bad thing to say.
But arguably plenty out there that think owning up to it and working toward better ways is at least better than taking an even lower road or acting like it's not a problem.
Greg might find a coaching opportunity at ToE.
Yep. I appreciate that too.....and you are right, we can debate/discuss "what ifs" and things, but he didn't mince words and owned it....no PR firm involved and I respect that.Exactly - it's odd how people are trying to rationalize for or against a theory more than McDermott himself. He's basically said I said something I shouldn't have, I understand it's place and hurt, and I own it.
Or stupid. If you can't understand why a blatantly racist statement doesnt deserve a suspension, you're one or the other.
Racism doesnt just mean you're attending weekly klan meetings. It can also be dismissing racist **** as not a big deal.
And that's the reason i said 'self-examine'. Because when it comes down to it, we all have inherent biases we need to self examine for.
Oh because I have a different opinion than you on the punishment that makes me either racist or stupid?
Are you saying that it couldn’t make you one or both of those things?
Im trying to follow along with what you are saying here, which is difficult, but no, me disagreeing with the punishment doesn’t automatically preclude me from being racist or stupid. I never argued that.
@alarson says if you don’t agree with the punishment you are racist or stupid.
This is exactly what I expected from you. If he even dared to disagree with the punishment he would never coach again. He would be canceled. Best to just take it, say sorry and move on. Even if it is yet another stupid overreaction. It’s the world we live in now.If you're getting up in arms about a guy getting punished for a racist statement, when that guy himself has owned his mistake and agrees with the punishment, yeah, you might have some issues to work out.

Do you think using a common term like "up in arms" is the same thing as telling a bunch of black kids to stay on the plantation, or do you just not know what irony is?I haven’t reached for a weapon or started a rebellion, and don’t appreciate you claiming I have.
Oh wait, you didn’t mean that literally?
The irony...
