I've never done a cruise but that is my feeling as well. I want to be able to stay and enjoy a place and not be rushed.

I do like the idea of sampling a bunch of places before going, but I have enough places I know I want to go it's not necessary.

It reminds me of the last time we were in Cozumel. That little main area all the cruise ships dock are just madness and chaos of people. All rushing to try and get stuff in to be back at a certain time. I feel like all they get from each location is force fed by people just looking to take more of their money. I liked being able to go around the island. Food was so much better too when you got of the tourist trap port area.

That vibe makes sense and early in our cruise life we fell into that trap. Our cruise last trip to Cozumel (id recommend a week on Cozumel at some place like Secrets if anyone hasnt been) we ended up at a beach club call Nachi Cocum because it wasnt an option offered on the cruise ship. Ended up relaxing on a beach for 7 hours with a spattering of snorkeling and then heading back to the ship.

Serious question - What is it about a cruise that appeals to you?
I've only been on one with family back when I was in middle school. I had a lot of fun but have always wanted to do one with friends cause I think it'd be a hell of a time

I was aprehensive at first but we took one for our honeymoon and I've been hooked ever since. No cooking, no cleaning, everything is right there for you. The ships are huge and rarely feel crowded. Wake up each morning in a new place. Can meet new people if you want or stay by yourself.

It's the only way I'll vacation anymore.

It sounds just like the all inclusive resorts I go to

Have you ever taken a cruise? I was totally against taking one, a couple we hang out with starting going on them and begged us to try it also. My wife loved the idea, I fought it for 4 or 5 years, when I finally told them if you can find one these couple of weeks, we will go. They did, we went, and we both loved it.

Cruising to Alaska in July as a retirement gift, cruising is not for everyone, but it sure beats the hell out of sitting at an all-inclusive for a week.

Boats sink, and then there's the food poisoning. I'll pass.
Planes crash and last (only) time I was in Cozumel I got food poisoning. Plane ride back was fun. Nothing like spending quality time in a airplane rest room!

That said, I also was only on one cruise. It was ok but I've no real desire to do it again. I have been intrigued by those smaller cruises that hit backwater areas and tie up in remote areas for beach or snorkeling. With evening meals on the sand.

We took a short cruise from Miami to Nassau, Bahamas and back once. I liked it but my wife really didn’t. I can see the appeal and also see why people wouldn’t like it. I typically am responsible for driving, getting us places, etc on vacations so it was nice to have that done for me. My wife is more of a type that’s content with getting to one place and staying there. So really, it’s all about your personality type.

I'd like to try but my wife doesn't like the idea.

If you ever talk her into going, get a balcony room, middle of the ship, very little rocking. Nothing better in the world than sitting on the balcony, with a bucket of beer, watching the sea rolling by. The carnal stuff on the balcony is also a blast.

My wife and I took our 2 daughters (16 and 18) on a river cruise on the Rhine last summer as kind of a last family vacation before they head off on their own. Starting in Amsterdam, we went through the Netherlands, Germany, France and ended up in Switzerland where we stayed for 3 nights after the cruise. Great food and drink and usually several off-boat activities each day. I initially refused to go but my wife bought me a ticket anyway. I'm sure glad she did because it was a blast!!! I think the capacity of the river boat was 175 but we only had 86 on our trip...probably just right for a Cyclone Fanatic trip!?
