Most he had before that game was 5. As I said it was a hell of a game for him he just had a lot of factors in his favor. Do you remember the Grinnell kid that put up like 135 points in a game? His teammates knew before the game they were going to try to do that. Just like this game when the team knew he was going for it and to get him the ball when going up the floor

Did it appear that he was doing anything other than playing basketball? He quietly got his assists. He was aided by great shooting. I was at the game and frankly it didn’t appear that he was hunting assists for most of the game. And who the hell would care?

It’s an ******* move to denigrate it. It took heft 3 OTs to get 16 and hornacek 2OTs to get 15. No one denigrates them.

Student here. Remind me to get off your lawn.

I thought the attendance for the Drake football game was pathetic of all of you old people who claim to be there through thick and thin, but I kept my mouth shut.

Conference play will make a difference. Students aren't dumb; they know the lines, they know the quality of the opponent. And they know that their attendance at a game against Southern makes no difference. This is coming from someone who's been to every game this year, and multiple road football games. Shrinking the student section will only kill Hilton Magic. The old folks hardly make any noise anyway.

While I'm ranting, some of the problem is how gimmicky the atmosphere has become the past couple of seasons. Whether it's the "Hey Band," forced BS, or the dumb hand crank tornado siren, students see right through that crap. We grew up in the internet age, with gimmicks everywhere. We crave authenticity, and we don't like it when spirit is "directed" from the top-down. Let us do our thing, from the bottom-up. Not a single "Let's Go State" chant has gotten off the ground this year, even against Missouri. A lot of that is about the quality of the game, but another part is that every break in the action, there's some kind of bull-**** going on. LET THE MAGIC BREATHE.
The athletic department is trying to copy cat other schools with this stuff, or so I've heard from people with access, but in doing so they're fixing something that was never broken. And when they don't work, they decide the solution is just to get more gimmicks, or push them harder. Just leave us alone, and occasionally give me free food to go to a volleyball game!

I agree with you that they were going for the record. I noted in the game thread that Haliburton must really want the team to get to 100 points, but in hindsight, it's obvious he was balling out with a few minutes left to get the record. I also thought how Babb was playing was atypical, but that can be explained by him letting Haliburton handle most of the playmaking duties.

Thank you. Glad someone can take off the cardinal and gold glasses for a bit.

Wait, what's wrong with the handcrank siren? I'm not that far removed from being a student and I kinda like it. But then again, I'm into cool mechanical devices and technology.

When Melvin got over 30 points and there was still a lot of time left in the game his teammates started doing everything they could to find him in a position to score. It does nothing to reduce his accomplishment of scoring the second most points by a Cyclone in a game (and a Big 12 record). I find it even cooler to see all his teammates do everything they can do to make a teammate's special day the most it can be.

Random thought but whenever I think back on that game one of my biggest takeaways is how far TCU has come since those days. They were abysmal.

Melvin went from "not Big 12 caliber" to Big 12 player of the year. Seriously, everyone who said that should be banned from ever giving another opinion on the internet.
