I agree hang 5 at Hilton. Should be a no brainer. 3 years should be the minimum. In today's day, the all time greats rarely stay 4 years.

Disagree completely. We are a university that sponsors a basketball team. While it's true guys come here to play basketball, having a number retired is the highest of honors at Iowa State. It should show not only outstanding play on the court but a commitment to the university. We need to ensure our collective praise is for guys who give everything they have to Iowa State, which includes graduation.

Personally - I agree with you.

But to clarify - do we retire numbers, or hang jerseys?

He was a lock first round pick who turned it down for a third season...a season that turned out to be ISU's best...a top 5 season.

It kind of cheapens the other retired jersey's to NOT have Fizer up there with them.

It's so lame that this turned into an Ejim thread.

Big shocker BDK was the first one to derail the thread with his usual nonsense.

Anyone who watched both Fizer and Ejim play in college, and wants to honestly argue that Ejim is/was a better player ... let's just say I feel sorry for you. It is not even close. It can reasonably be argued (by those much smarter than me) that Fizer was the best player ever to play at ISU. Ejim would struggle to make the all-time team.

That said, the question is not Fizer or Ejim - the answer may ultimately be both. Debate Melvin's worthiness 10 years from now. The question right now is if it is time to #Hang5atHilton ... obviously I believe it is.

This. In-his-prime Fizer was a BEAST.

You literally just insinuated twice that fizer and ejim are fairly. Equal

And? "fairly equal"... and I didn't even do that in actuality..

What I actually did is take exception to your assertation that Marcus was "100x better" than Melvin and that he would "wad him up and wipe the floor".

I think it would be a decent matchup in that they are different players. In the end - I would say I think Marcus would win the majority of any type of matchup, but I don't think it's a given. If you'd like to add a caveat that say, "no shots outside 15 feet" - yeah, Fizer all day.

Also BDK should be banned from threads that talk about hanging jerseys in the rafters. His first year of basketball were Ejim and Kane, so they are the greatest of all time in his book.

Honest question for those in the "graduation" requirement ... the next time that an undergraduate student leaves Iowa State University before earning a degree, goes out into the world and accomplishes great things (wins a Nobel Prize or finds the cure fpr cancer) or is unbelievably successful in business (the next Mark Zuckerburg) but does it without earning that degree because he didn't need it given his/her situation ... are you going to proclaim him/her as a great Iowa Stater or shun he/she for not graduating?

Royce White's team was my first year that I actually watched the games.
