I thought it was a good day. No major disappointments from my perspective. All the guys looked they were in good shape and wrestled hard.

Mackall teched the #10 guy in the country.

Small beat an NCAA Q and proved he is a very good backup.

Degen lost to a guy that is a previous AA and has beaten Degen at least 3x now. It was an upset rankings wise, but I don’t know if anyone would have picked Degen to win that match. Thought Degen looked fine and he usually gets better as the season progresses.

Coleman lost to an AA. He was wrestling hard and aggressive. Struggled on bottom and finishing.

Colbray lost a close match to a guy ranked ahead of him.

Shapiro got 3rd, but lost to Sutton. I think Sutton looks very good. 97 is going to be a weak weight for ISU.

Gremmel beat a tough ranked wrestler.

Overall I think the day went about as expected. Would have liked to see Degen and Colbray pull off upsets, but they’ll see those guys again.

Agree also on most of that. Can't say I was expecting a win, but was really hoping to see wins from colbray and even Coleman. Both those uni guys are up a weight.

Overheard David say he tweaked his knee a little bit . Saw Gomez there but didn’t spot Parker.

My thoughts looking only at the results. Would have been really nice to see some of these matches. Wish this were promoted more to get on Flo.

125 - Really happy with Mackall. He split with Schwarm last year so to have him dominate was encouraging.

133 - Small will be a nice fill-in until Gomez gets down to weight, but make no mistake, Austin needs to make 133 for us to be top 10.

141 - Would have been really nice to see how Parker or Gomez stacked up against Blockhaus and Lara.

149 - Degan is now 0-5 against Thomsen. Obviously a bad style matchup, but he needs to get it figured out if he wants to place high at Nationals.

157 - Unlike 141, I have no problem holding Carr out if he had a tweak. There was no one in this bracket that would have challenged him.

165 - Looks like we have 4 guys who are all very close. Will be a weaker weight, but at least Straw and Judge should be able to be respectable and allow Schumacher and Mulder to redshirt.

174 & 184 - Lumping these together as they wrestled high level guys and the losses were certainly not upsets. That said, both UNI guys are coming up a weight and I would have hoped to get one of these.

197 - At first I was disappointed here, but after doing a little research, this Sutton kid seems to be the real deal. I guess he just doesn't have the grades to go D1 but definitely has the talent. Hopefully Joel learns and progresses as the season goes on.

286 - Looking back, Grannon split with Isley last year, I was thinking he lost both. At any rate, it seems he was able to get a takedown and out from underneath this time which is progress. These two will be close every time.

Perhaps my biggest concern is Aden Reeves. I know he was off for an entire year. Here's hoping it's just rust and not a continuation of the injury.
