If it gets us Barnes, hire Jake as an assistant... hell, even if it doesn't I'd be fine with that move.

Wasn't saying he would be an assistant at ISU.. He could end up on a staff somewhere else and that would not be good for us.

On the bright side if we are at a 50% chance that means we have a better chance than the remaining schools right?

We need to lock this kid up and throw away the key until 2010.

Where's Bill Murry when you need him...

How about a "lock box?"

Rumors are it's in the Hilton renovation plans we have not heard squat about.

Renovation Plans?...When is it gonna come to actual construction?

Its been since 1976 and I'm still waiting on the completion of the football stadium...

Dont hold your breath boys that either project will start anytime soon!!

FWIW on his player bio they have ISU as "high interest" and the other schools listed as "med interest"

With this, and Jake Sullivan's recent comments we got a "50-50" chance, I'm getting a worried feeling. It just seems too good to be true.

You know I really hope we get this kid, but neither ISU or Iowa has ever gotten a kid ranked this high. I still remember the gnashing of teeth in the state when Raef Lafrenz went to KU. And that was back in the heady days of Johnny Orr and Tim Floyd.

It's probably good he's not in next years class, because with all the recent turmoil it would probably hurt our chances. Let's hope out team shows some progress this year so this kid is impressed.

It will be a coup if we get this kid.

Barnes decision has a lot to do with ISU's ability to rebuild next year. If we have a year showing improvement and promise, he will be a clone. If not, he will sign with a school like KU, UNC etc. It helps a ton knowing he is buds with all ISU players, and plays with them often at the Rec Center. The downside of this, is if we keep losing players, the negativity shown will obviously transfer down to Barnes.

He will sign next summer and hopefully give us great things to look forward to or at least put us out of our misery.

Wouldn't it be sweet to grow up rooting on a team, and the being so good that you potentially have the power to single handidly put the team you love back on the map? I know I would have no problem deciding, but I would wait just to make sure $hit doesn't hit the fan..... which it may be.

If HB is a legit top 10 player he would likely be gone in 1-2 seasons and if that is the case he is not as important to our program as maybe a solid 4 year starter would be. Course, I'd still love to have him.

if he's good enough to leave in 1 - 2 years, then he'd help us out a lot. The team would have to do well for him to get that kind of recognition so I'd be all for that. HB and Brackins could potentially play on the same team. That is IF Brackins sticks around until he's a senior, and IF HB even COMES to ISU. That would be awesome though. Everytime we get a player of that caliber it helps out our program, even if they go pro early.

Don't get me wrong, he'd help out our program tremendously even for one season. I'm just trying to say that if we don't land him but instead somebody who is a quality 4 year starter it wouldn't be the end of the world. This program desperately needs good long term starters.

Truthfully I really hope he goes where he is happy. I don't it to be one of those decisions were he chooses us because his dad or the pressure to commit. As we have been finding out its better just to find the player that REALLY want to be here. That said I really hope it works out for us.

I dont see it that way. 50% he chooses ISU, 50% he choose anyone of 300+ NCAA schools. Now theres only a small hanful of other schools he will consider, but we still have the majority.

Jake said he wants to be the best player in his class. I dont think he will get ranked high if he commits right away. He may have already decided where he wants to go, but he wont keep getting offers and keep getting hype if he commits to a school.

As long as we keep seeing him in Cyclone Alley most every Wed and Sat this winter, we should worry too much. I cant wait til next summer when he commits, he said it would be his senior year when he decided, hopefully he does it the summer before. Its a year and a half away and people are already on the ledge looking down about it.

I disagree. First of all, in today's game there are precious few "solid 4 year starters" out there in the power conferences...either a guy is not good enough to start early in his career and matures into it without having the skills to be lured away by the NBA or a guy is good enough to start right off the bat and he is lured to the NBA early...that is what typically happens.

Frankly, I think we are destined to be a middle to lower end Big 12 team if we are focused on bringing only guys that will be 4 year guys into the program. We need guys that have NBA ability...period. As I said in an earlier post, just look at the top tier team from our conference over the past 20-25 years...there is one common denominator for these teams...they have guys that can play in the NBA (usually more than one).

I think you need to take a good long look at Wisconsin, the program I think Mac/Pollard most want to emulate. They are consistently in the top 3 in the big ten and win titles. Yes, they have NBA talent, everyone knows you have to have NBA talent to win but are they sending kids early every year to the league? No, they are not. They are doing it with 3-4 year starters. They have quality recruiting classes, not amazing, but quality. And they win. This is what ISU has to do. We are not, and will never be a Kansas but we can be a Wisconsin.

Well, except that if you take a look at Wisconsin, you have to look at the case of their all-Big Ten center Brian Butch - two-time Wisconsin high school Player of the Year at Appleton West high school, McDonald's All-American, recruited by all of the big national powers. It came down to North Carolina and Wisconsin, and he chose...Wisky.
Indeed, let's hope Iowa State "can be a Wisconsin," and sign the in-state high school star who is recruited nationally.
