Has Paul Rhoads run out of gas? Is this the year we lay an egg?

Bumps in the road would be normal at this point. It happened to McCarney after a great season. It happened to Alvarez after a Rose Bowl season. Just when you think the program is about to take the next step, it regresses.

Yeah, the recruiting thing has me puzzled too. Obviously it's not time to panic yet, and maybe Rhoads is being more picky this year, but I would have thought we'd have a few commits by now?

I really thought our huge win against Okie State on national TV, and our bowl game in NY would pay some dividends, but it hasn't been the case.... yet that is.

As for Rhoads' comments, I think everyone is taking them out of context a bit. I don't think Rhoads meant that he'd look to go elsewhere if the opportunity arose as much as he just meant that you never know when you might get canned in college coaching. He did say he'd be a very lucky man to be able to retire at ISU, so I think he'd like to be here as long as he's wanted IMO.

I think this is a year that will either show he's what we think he is or a minor egg...but our sched doesn't help. We had some great moments last year, but now we need to get the sustained consistent team. Okie State, we didnt give up, same with Uconn.

I hope we can keep the upward swing. When we hit the road to play big boys, we are positioned to win, etc .

Paul is bright and is looking at the schedule. Only a fool or an eternal optimist would look at his squad and his schedule and say that it will be a 9-10 win season. If the Clones had an absolutely great QB like RGIII outlooks would be different. Having a game changer behind the center makes the seemingly impossible possible.

He has said multiple times that these will be the best players/team he has put out on the field at Iowa State. I don't see that as hedging. The schedule is brutal but it was the same last year and will be in the future.

But yet it seems to be helping James Harden. A conundrum.

Maybe beards make people look slow because it makes them look older. This must just be the perception CPR is trying to give the other coaches so he will appear weak. Bill Snyder figured this out years ago which is why he looks 10-15 years older than he really is and manages to win games.

Well played CPR you sneaky cyclone.

Wow, it's pretty early to try to win dumbest post of the day....

McCarney laid eggs twice - once in 2003 after winning 7 games in '02, and again in 2006 after winning 7 games in '05. I wouldn't call 7 win seasons "great" by any means.
