HD local Channels...

Question, since I'm not at home (but want to know right now!)...

If I have shows on the local channels set to record to my DVR, will I have to reprogram them to record on the new HD channels, or will they automatically switch over? I think I already know the answer to this...

Do they showup in place of 5, 8, 13, and 17 or as additional channels?

depends on how you have it setup. Most likely they look the same. try watching 13 tonight when the prime time shows are on, it would be in HD then.

I like this because my antenna version is 13-1 and the sat HD version is 13.

That is to bad.

At least I can look forward to being able to see the bowl games in HD and the Superbowl.

An finally I can see all my prime time shows in HD.

Yikes, I have been watching prime time shows in HD for 8 years now.

You have to reset your recordings to record the HD version of the show. I updated all of mine this morning.

I have trees all around me and just can't pick them up over the air. I think we are in a valley too. I barely get a good shot at the southern sky for the dish. I had to cut down two trees to get a good signal on the dish.

I did get to see the prime time shows in HD for a whille with Mediacom until we switched. I have missed it for so long.

I just reset all of my recordings to HD manually.

I'm surprised at how many shows are not in HD (Sat night live, Simpsons, etc)

Wow, what equipment was that? I have had both HD Dvr models they offered and both worked fine.

The HVR-21 (which is pretty much the only model DirecTV has been giving to customers lately) does not have an input for an OTA antenna, hence no ability to record locals OTA. There is an adapter available, but it costs extra and is pretty much pointless now that we have HD locals available directly from DirecTV. (Yes, the signals from DirecTV are more compressed than OTA signals, but I personally am not that picky.)

Correct, but they make an AM-21 which is an OTA decoder for it. All you have to do is call in, say I am in a market that does not have HD locals, and they overnight you one for free.

They must really like you, because when I asked about it they said it would cost me. Kind of a moot point now, but if anybody out there is still living in a market without HD locals, I guess it's worth a shot.

Yeah I got 3 of them for free. Of course I gave up HR10-250's and they had the functionality.

Exactly how mine are working, except mine are 4 & 4-1, 6 & 6-1, 8 & 8-1, and 18 and 18-1...
