You never ever ever kickoff.

Defer = kick off first half, ball second half
Kickoff = kick off first half, other team can defer and take ball second half

I was at a coin toss in a high school playoff game in which the team that won the toss deferred. The other team's captain chose to kick-off. A few minutes later the refs pulled everyone back together and let the other team receive the 1st half kick. I thought that kind of stunk.

If you win the coin toss, you defer but kick the onside kick. Won't be expecting it. After we recover and score within the 1st minute, it's smooth sailing from there.

I would rather start on D and take the ball in the second half. That way if there is something the coaches see that will work for the offense they can try it right away in the second half.

Historically ISU has not done very well when starting with the ball. The new coaching staff might change that.

I always prefer to kick and then get the ball to start the 2nd half. No matter what happens against NDSU, should we kick or receive the ball, I want to see a strong statement by either the Offense or the D.

I have always thought you take the ball when you win the coin flip. Go down and score points right away and put the pressure on the other team right away if you can.

With our offense being so much stronger than our D, I can't imagine we would defer.

Don't be a wuss. Gimme the ball and make sure you're wearin' your cup.
Plus, we have an excellent punter (who I hope never kicks when the clock is running).
This. +1

That shouldn't be any different than normal...

And I didn't know until 7th grade when I was a Cpt on the football team and our coach told us before we went out to midfield to defer if we had the choice and we asked what the difference between deferring and kicking was.

Yea, I learned this the hard way. In high school, I got the honorary captain roll in our last home game as a senior. Coach sent me out there, I was nervous. He told me if we win the toss, we wanted to kick. Well, the other team won the toss, and deferred. Trying to do what coach wanted, I elected to kick.

My coach was busy talking in to our defense while this all happened. As I ran back to the sidelines, I had to tell him that I had chosen to kick after the other team deferred. He just gave me one of these ==>:no::no:

Well, we won't be calling it until we head to Kent State.

#2, Kick or defer

Oh, and #3, tails never fails.

I don't think anyone gets it,
you are right, we aren't calling the coin toss,
we will get what is left.

Look and see what image is showing on top as the referee prepares to flip,
95% of the time it will be that image.
Of course that is if you catch it , the grass could flip it on landing, or an edge.

Go offense!!!!!!!
That was our strength last year.
Score first and help the defense out.
Force the punt and score again, and again, and again etc.
I do think we will play better defense than last year.
