Whirlpool fridge. About 12 years old. Rattling up top where the air comes in inside. Not down by the coils or compressor. Water is shut off to it for about a month due to connection that went bad and leaked on the floor. Yes I know it’s probably time for a new fridge but I’d like to fix it if I can. Rattling isn’t loud, more subtle off and on.

Not exactly sure.
One of two things I think.

First, may have a rattlesnake trapped it there. Does it only rattle when you are close?

Other possible cause is the fan needs replaced or there is loose screws that’s allowed it to work loose somewhere in it.

A fridge used to last for 20+ years. Now they’re designed to start going bad after 6-10 years. It’s a racket.
A "fridge" will last a while. (My LG is 12)
A fridge with a TV, whiskey glass ice cubes, a door inside of a door may not last as long.

Maybe it’s cold. Put a blanket around it to warm it up.

Don’t worry take it to the game with you tomorrow. I’m sure it will stay cold.

I took the little filter out of it. That’s why that door is open. It’s rattling in that housing behind where it says conquest.

Try seeing if there's a parts manual online for your model number that might break out where certain parts are in your fridge. There are also often youtube repair videos for a lot of fridges that at very least might give you an idea of what the internals in that area look like and give you an idea what might be rattling.
