Anybody have a good homemade salad dressing recipe they like? After reading the nutrition labels, most of the store-bought salad dressings have a bunch of sugar added to them.

late response but early this summer we had salad at a place that was delicious and I found a way to somewhat mock their dressing at home. It was just some good balsamic vinegar and then squeeze a wedge of orange onto the salad.

I've learned that the vinegarette dressings work better on salads for me and i don't need as much compared to a creamy dressing like ranch or french. Not sure why, though. I've been using the Olive Garden Italian dressing lately because it had a lot less sugar then some of the other Italian dressings.

I've lost about 15 pounds over the past six weeks using a combination of intermittent fasting (16:8), greatly reducing sugar and cutting carbs. Had a big drop in weight initially, which I think is common, but now it is more of a steady drop. I tracked my food intake for about a month and realized my protein intake likely wasn't enough which surprised me. I also try to exercise at least 30 minutes a day with a combination of strength training, cardio work and walking.

Because it was warmer this morning, I went for about a 30 minute walk this morning. My neighborhood is a little hilly but I decided to jog on the flat and downhill areas and my legs didn't hurt while running. Usually my legs/shins would be really hurting before I even got close to out of breath.

Baby steps. It sounds like you're on the right path. Losing weight won't be a straight line. It'll be a lot of up and down.

That is good advice. A couple of weeks ago, when I had my weekly weigh-in, I only lost a pound. I still got discouraged because it wasn't as fast as I hoped. I really need to focus on making sure I don't get discouraged.

Congrats. I too have had good results doing LCHF (low carb, high fat) and IF (intermittent fasting, specifically OMAD (one meal a day). Beef, salmon, bacon, eggs, aged cheeses, cream, a few greens. Been 4.5 years now. Also supplementing D3, magnesium, K2

I'm not a big seafood fan, but I've started cooking some pan-seared salmon filets that are pretty good. Just make sure to add some salt/pepper/garlic to give it some flavor. It was good enough that kids loved it and wanted seconds.

I've learned that not only that intermittent fasting can help you lose weight, but there have been some early studies showing that IF helps people live longer and may reduce cancer and Alzheimer's risk.

I like the canned salmon ALDI sells. 14oz for $3.39. Pink salmon wild caught off Alaska. Pick out the spine/bones if you like. Microwaved or steamed with butter on top. I try to eat at least a can per week. Way better than supplementing O3 fish oil for DHA and EPA, IMO.

Watch out for Atlantic salmon. I've read that Atlantic stocks are depleted and that any salmon marketed as Atlantic salmon is raised in pens along the coast, fed pellets, so that the fatty-acid profile ends up being undesirable. They market it with misleading buzz words to get you to think it is top notch.

Just looked on Hy-Vee's website, it says "Farm Raised Atlantic Salmon". Looks like I bought the stuff raised in pens. :(

When I played football in college (def end) I weighed 225 pounds and benched 430. Had 10 percent body fat (underwater tested).

My stomach was flat, but never a six pack or "ripped."

Now im 63, have had a triple bypass and carotid artery surgery, weigh 206 and have a gut that is noticeable.

i have tried to get a flat stomach, and have decided it isnt worth the extreme effort. Never thought Id say it. I eat responsibly, walk 2-5 miles a day, and do pushups and a few sets of dumbbells at home twice a week.

I not really obese, but i do have like 20 percent body fat (just a guess). Im not eating salmon and green beans every day, and my knees make running a no no.

shrug. we get old. try and be healthy, get moderate exercise, but dont let anyone guilt you for not looking like you did when you were 40.

Awesome job, it sounds like you're doing a great job. Keep in mind that safe weight loss is 1-2lbs per week, so while your progress doesn't feel significant, it is. I'm glad that you feel better too because that's the most important thing.

Awesome sauce here!

Sounds like you're finding what works and reaping some initial benefits.

I still can't run due to a nagging hamstring and am getting to PT next week to hopefully got on track to seal it up and start some light running by Decemberish.

Diet's going pretty well though and I walk plenty every day at work.

Because I don't have time and money to go to a gym, I workout at home and do a lot of youtube workouts. I recently did a 20 minute dumbbell workout that was brutal, but the fitness instructor on the video was very good looking. It made the tough workout a little bit more enjoyable.
