You bowl in the north end zone for one of two reasons: to maximize revenue (increasing prices per seat) or to add more capacity. The former is antithetical to attracting younger alums and fans, and the other is adding capacity that's not necessarily needed and may not be down the road. University growth has leveled out. The attendance trends in college athletics generally trend downward (largely because of the younger, more fickle fans referenced above). In 2025, ISU might not have a conference affiliation worthy of its stadium.Removing the hillsides and replacing with seats wouldn’t necessarily add capacity. Plus if you’re spending that much on a structure in the NEZ, you should look forward.
And still, the NEZ could still eventually be bowled in if necessary. It's not like they're going to build the athletics performance center right where a new bowl would go. It doesn't appear these are mutually exclusive projects.
