Does the name Georges Niang ring a bell for you? You know, the guy who's on just about every sportswriter and basketball analyst's watch list for the upcoming season?

Second thread I've seen someone just practically forget about Georges Niang. Unbelievable. I wish everyone would do themselves a service and go look at his stats from last year.

Rothstein does a great job and Hogue deserves a ton of credit. Watching his defense on Wiggins in the B12 tourney was impressive - he was a man possessed especially in the first half. He really stepped it up in the B12 and NCAA tourney. Of course, his game vs UCONN was epic. Keep it roll'n Dustin!

Rothstein is my favorite national college basketball analyst. He actually knows his stuff about ISU and is huge about talking them up.

Pretty sure Rothstein and Matt A went to college together. He's a great source for the staff to leak info.

One of my favorite Hogue highlights from last season. Go to the 1:59:10 mark.

Thanks now I have to watch the whole damn thing,

also is it really true no team from Texas has won the Big 12 tourney? That's hilarious.

I'd be curious to know if the staff has been working with him at all to develop his outside shot. He took the fewest threes of anyone with significant minutes last year, and if he could start getting them to fall like Ejim did in his last couple years, he'll take his game to a whole new level (I'm salivating at the thought right now). He might be seeing more time on the perimeter with McKay down low, too.

Really excited to see his role in the new offense. Can't wait!

Hogue has a different looking stroke, but he seemed to knock down quite a few last year. I'd be surprised if he didn't shoot very close to ejims % last season.

Dustin just needs to work on his post defense more than anything to really help the team go to the next level. He frequently got beat to the block last season, but was quickly improving by year end. Looking forward to more of his progress.

I had forgotten that it took ISU 7.5 mins to make a shot in that game.

Percentage-wise he was close to Ejim, but he took fewer than half the amount of shots that Ejim did per game. I'm just wondering if he'll pull the trigger more often next year.

I really liked Hogue throughout the year, but really bought into him on that in bounds play in the Big 12 Championship where CFH sent him to guard the the pass-receiver, to force what I think was Baylor's last time out.

A. Great call by CFH.
B. Great play by Hogue to work like the game had just started to keep that ball on the sidelines.

It seems like every time a 'who's gonna be good on ISU' list comes out on here, there's at least one player that gets left out because there's so much potential in the others. That's hopefully a good thing.

I could see the team having a similar/slightly worse record than last year, but come what I expect to be NCAA tourney time, there's a sense that some major things can happen.

To extend that another level, Niang got mentioned in some of these "undervalued" lists last season — and that took a few months to kick in.

So now ISU has a player who wasn't even on the "unsung radar" 12 months ago getting prominent national attention, plus a teammate who was on nobody's D1 radar at that time with potential for more hype than Niang received in August 2013.

(Sorry that was so poorly-structured. I got in a hurry.)

It's incredible, but he may be best remembered by his defense on an out of bounds play. That play just sums him up so well.
