By not running plays, the coaches got to see the natural tendencies of the guys together on the floor in a game situation. In trying to run an up-tempo offense you have to be able to coach your guys on how to play when there's not a play called just as much as when there is one.

Put them out there, let them play, and see what they do on their own. Then you see their team strengths and can game plan around that. You'll also get to see what weaknesses they have as a group and can coach them up. Let the guys' natural tendencies guide the game plan and play calling rather than trying to ram the guys into a system that isn't right for them. You just have to figure out what those tendencies are.

It's an exhibition game - it's meant for building confidence and chemistry and as a way for the coaches to gather information on how their team will perform in a game situation.

Are you trying to insinuate that the game of basketball should be free-flowing and fun? Blasphemy!!!! Only totally structured BB allowed in today's world. I want the coach to tell me when I can take a ****.

We want to see buzz cuts and two handed set shots.

I was at the Dubuque game, and I heard DG call 32 many times down the court, and some other numbers also.

Funny you brought that up, I was mentioning to a buddy during the game how nice it was to not see a coach flying around on the sidelines screaming instructions, the players probably enjoyed it too.

Again, I loved the passing!! It puzzled me in McD 5 years we always had issues getting the ball down low.

Agreed. It was good to see the team play thing happening, and to see him let the players play.

I think Fred is pretty smart about when to yell instructions and when to step back (especially the stepping back).

"32" is actually an easy play. Which is why he called it many times. Its where he keeps the bigs down low(both C and PF). Then he goes for an iso if he can, and then the bigs are there to make a quick cut if he needs to get rid of it. Pretty simple.

Or it is just a simple 3-2 motion call. I don't know which it is but I'm just saying it could be that based on the motion based offense we run.

1) It was an exhibition. It's a grounds for trying out certain things without any "risk" of losing a game. Last year, Jim Boeheim didn't even run his zone defenses against LeMoyne. He wanted to see how well his players would do on man.

2) This is how these guys grew up playing. Contrary to popular belief, i bet 90% of them play "better" when it's a game without worrying what play is being called.

3) Our last coach had 99 million plays. Watching games it was obvious players would get some of these plays mixed up with each other, be confused, and **** would hit the fan. Too much information to memorize in too short of time is horrible for you and you WILL get **** mixed up.

4) Our coaching staff OBVIOUSLY has plays. They have tons of plays. They wouldn't be much of coaches if they didn't have offensive and defense schemes and sets. They will be calling plays this year, but they will probably also let the kids play "free" at times (depending on who the opponent is). Against a highly ranked team, they aren't going to let them run free probably because the other team is good and can defend that. They need actual strategy versus those teams (i.e. Kansas, Texas, etc).

5) I would rather watch exciting, free flowing basketball than a bunch of boring set games. This is why I absolutely DESPISE some basketball teams in the big 10. Absolutely boring. Sure, it's technical basketball, but I go to games or watch them to be entertained..not to be bored out of my ******* mind. I'd rather see a bunch of nice passes than some guy holding the ball doing nothing WAITING DESPERATELY for some guy to get open.
