BTW ... why the heck is Fred (I assume with Nebraska's OK) putting out public statements about replacing an existing (not fired) coach who is trying to prepare his team for a post-season tournament? I don't care what has been communicated privately among the parties, It is a **** way for Neb to be publically treating Miles.
Exactly.....and this is where it gets dumb. Supposedly the best friend's cousins uncle rumor is that the nebr players know it is is going to be Hoiberg. Which is exactly what you would do right? Tell the players who the next coach is before you announce the firing of the existing coach?
Also the nebr AD was in Calif (not at the B10 tourney) to watch his son play a spring game for Calif. That just seems weird.

I was having a goof on his previous quote. I guess that quote didn't get as much publicity outside of Nebraska.

BTW, if you saw the whole thing in context ... he was responding to a question about feeling bad if he was fired ... and he was saying don't feel bad for him since he would come out OK ... but there were plenty of others everyday in life that lose their jobs that are not so fortunate as him. It was a statement of gratitude that some of the Neb fans that want him gone quoted out of context to try to damage him and hasten his departure. There was a whole thread about this on the Neb board ... it got really ugly over there as their fans turned on him.

Fred's maternal grandfather was Jerry Bush. He was NUs coach from 54-63 and had a record of 83-132. Fred spent a lot of time in Lincoln as a kid visiting his mothers family. Nu fans in Omaha have been speculating about getting Fred for several weeks. Not out of the realm of possibility. Remember that everyone thought ISU was a coaching graveyard for football before CMC arrived. Would be strange that both Creighton and NU's coaches were both former ISU coaches.
This is a fact, not a joke. Fred's grandfather (Jerry Bush) was Nebraska' coach from 1954 to 1963. Also, NU beat writer Chris Heady just confirmed that NU athletic director Bill Moss did reach out to Fred and he listened. Heady said he does not think it's a done deal, but there is interest on Fred's part and definitely NU's part.

So, Nebraska basketball is 0-7 all time in the NCAA tournament and their only appearance since joining the turdy big 10 was a loss to the Big 12's own Baylor Bears.

That job is a toilet bowl. Money talks, but that one may be too much to come back from after the inevitable crash and burn that awaits for whoever is dumb enough to take over that dumpster fire.

At least it's not to Kansas or Iowa City. Hopefully he doesn't steal too many recruits or transfers that we have our eye on. I do anticipate he will relate well with any in-state Iowa recruits if this happens.

Anybody know his relationship with Xavier Foster? Could be a major twist in that recruiting plot...

He'd obviously go after him. But Fred's been out of college for 4 years. He didn't give a **** about recruiting for the 2 years prior to that. I suppose he could have gained a great relationship with 11 year old Foster.

Yeah, all the relevant bigwigs said something like this.

Pollard was willing to back the truck up to Fred's place, but only if Fred was going to make some sort of long-term commitment to ISU and not just do it again next year.

If money was the issue, the AD was determined to make it no longer an issue.

Fred told him do not bother -- he is going to the NBA. Time to move on.

And we did.

Well, I mean, Naz was in the building, so since he wasn't a Prohm recruit...

Because prohm made it so

Or Billy Kennedy made it so. Both Prohm and Otz stepped into one of the best two jobs in their respective conferences. Both good coaches although Steve has achieved more. But neither one of them had to “build” something from scratch.

, People said the same thing about the ISU football program before CMC arrived. Dumpster fire, coaching graveyard, can't recruit there, etc. NU has never won an NCAA tournament game, the only major conference program with that claim. The state is starving for any success and the expectations are not sky high. If he takes them to the NCAA tourney and wins one game, they will anoint him king. Fred is more than capable of accomplishing that feat, although I would rather he didn't.

They said that last year before the season
Last year was different. They had a new coach that took over a hot mess. It’s blatanly obvious Nebraska took big strides last year and their recruiting is strong. Reminded me a lot of Campbell’s first season.

Agree. Nebraska is no bb graveyard - they've just hired the wrong coaches. Tremendous fan support and unlimited $$$.

@Jayshellberg How can you disagree that NU basketball has ever been anything other than garbage? Serious question.

They stink.

From Wikipedia: "Nebraska has the unfortunate distinction of being the only major conference program to have never won a game in the NCAA Tournament, and did not even make the tournament until 1986. Much of the team's modest success....."

I mean, when that is how an impartial fact-based website describes you, it can't be all peaches and cream.

You mean like Matt Campbell taking over Iowa State? We were about like Nebraska basketball. We had 3 bowl wins all time when he took over (and 2 of those were as 6 win teams/low tier bowls). We were one of if not the worst programs of and major conference team. A lot of similarities of the two. Also, just like our football program, Nebraska basketball has had a high level of fan support, even with the lack of success and they are spending more $$ too than they used to.
