It's working its way national now...

Iowa State students created this amazing/terrible video promoting their school.

Iowa State Cyclones Featured in "Hooray for Ames," the Dorkiest Viral Video of the Year

At least it's providing a good laugh... We can only hope that's what was intended.

The Free Beer and Hot Wings radio show, which is semi-national, was mocking it as well.

“I think you’re going to get that with everything, there are always going to be haters out there,” LaVille said. “If you have haters, you must be doing something right.”

the only thing they did was embarrass the whole city of Ames

To make things worse... according to this article...

ISU was using it to recruit faculty .....

"The short answer is that the internet-at-large was not the intended audience. It wasn’t part of a campaign to make everyone in America realize Ames has nice water and no race wars and it also wasn’t created by undercover University of Iowa grads to make to Cyclones look bad.

The video was commissioned by Iowa State University’s Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost to highlight things that might attract potential faculty to ISU. Low crime, short commute, good schools and clean water were some of the ideas the school wanted to stress to this very specific market."
So they thought something like that would attract professors? Is ISU branching out into kindergarten?

Provost Marshall: "Water, we need a recruiting video like bball has. I want to fill up a cute jalopy with a diversity of on campus stars, make it visual and snappy, use a catchy tune, and highlight our positives such as commute times, freshwater, low crime except for VEISHA, and friendly education. I have a budget of three thousand, some future attaboys, and well wishes for you new Mission, Water. Can you do it? We will be riding on it with you."

finally watched it. Holy **** that was terrible. They should have done a focus group on it before letting anyone see it.

I think my favorite part was that dude on the guitar thinking he was Carlos Santana.

Also learned that Ellinwood "the dude responsible for all that barking in Kildee" is gay. I'm not sure why that is in the video though. Same with the odd feature on the Brooklyn-born professor. Having to point that out makes it seem like there is one gay man, and one black woman in all of Ames.

So I came across this gem today. It's made by the same people, except this time the chubby lead singer from the Hooray! video is dancing...

The real travesty in all this is that dress-wearing guy didn't even get a cameo.

Winning an iowa motion picture academy award sure does seem pretty prestigious. I'm gonna take a video the next time my dog makes a bm and enter it in.

How many of these are there?! I can't possibly chop and screw them all with gun sounds layered on top at this rate. Maybe we would have better luck requesting an exile.
