House Meetings...

I would agree with you, but I probably wouldn't know since I'm just a hermit shut-in. I honestly have no idea how I found out about stuff going on around campus without some formally organized meeting to go over it. I'm sure that talking to fellow residents outside of meetings is still strictly forbidden? We used to have to go to secret locations to eat dinner, study, or just hang out together. Those gestapo RA's were just brutal. Thank god for house meetings though, we don't have to worry anymore. Social interaction is out in the open now!

And let me tell you, now that I am out of school I can't even explain how far I have been set back in my career by not having dorm house treasurer on my resume. I have been passed over for a variety of executive positions because of it.

I stand completely corrected. Tell you lazy *** gf to get to her house meeting. There is no more productive way that she could possibly have to spend her time. Those meetings are worth their weight in gold. She will be missing out on tons of things without it.

Awesome. I missed out on IM Euchre one time because I skipped a meeting and couldn't find out when it started... I lay awake many nights wondering what could have been had I gone to that fateful meeting :jimlad:

Just tell her skip the meeting and read the "poop notes" Surely even the ladies floors have the poop notes, right?

Everything that can be learned at a house meeting can be learned by sitting on the toilet reading the "poop notes". EVERYTHING

Oh man, I forgot all about the poop notes!

I always went to my house meetings, but that's only because our floor was really close both years I lived in the dorms. We just messed around and had fun mostly, but the meetings were a big event for us when we had them. Everyone from the floor except the shut in people came, or the ones who were in fraternities and waiting to move off the floor.

On the other hand, I used to date a girl who lived in Oak-Elm and from what I understood the house meetings over there (all girl dorm) were typically totally boring and dragged on way too long. It really depends on the floor. If you have a good floor, your meeting should be fun. If not, it will suck and be basically "business" only.

This is exactly the kind of RA I would have been had I taken the offer.

Well I took over a floor mid-semester for my first assignment too. Guy before me got fired and the floor hated him. Heard all kinds of bad stories what they did to him so that made me a little nervous but after about 2 weeks the guys told me I had nothing to worry about because they thought I was "cool." Apparently their old RA was a nazi and would even stand outside the door where a party was going on just waiting to bust someone when the door opened. That was not me at all, I knew where the parties were going on but as long as the alcohol stayed out of sight, doors closed, and quiet when quiet hours started I was not going to bother them.

I think I went to the first meeting my freshman year, quickly learned that lesson, never went to another one for the next two years. Granted, the only real "dorm friend" I had was the guy I moved in with my second year. Not anti-social, just had a lot of good friends from other things that I preferred to hang out with.

I disagree with that quite strongly. If you're looking to be a total shut-in, then sure, there's no reason for you to come. For everyone else who wants to be involved in what's going on around them, house meetings are a great place to do it. People that regularly attend those meetings are far more likely to wind up in leadership positions, both inside and outside the residence halls. A majority of students eventually look for some sort of leadership experience, and that's a great way to get started.

Additionally, it's also a great way to find out what's going on around campus. People will share events that they've heard about or are involved in; a lot of the time, those are things the average resident wouldn't have heard about otherwise. Plus you get the bonus of immediately knowing that there are other people interested in going, so you don't have to attend alone.

Is every minute of every house meeting in the history of mankind a treasure trove of useful knowledge? Of course not. Neither are the US government's meetings, but we consider those pretty important, overall. In my experience, there's more than enough good stuff that can't be found elsewhere to justify attending house meetings.

No wonder I didn't get that promotion, I never attend any of my house meetings. Man, I wish I could go back in time!

She lives in Helser and each meeting is longer and have stretched longer...I have witnessed it. Keep in mind they are women and often times what she has told me several members of the cabinet say something and then they talk about it then they reiterate it and the CA talks about it more. This weeks e-mail said the hall director would be there taking attendance...I told them to e-mail somebody in the department of residence and complain or stop ********...

haha if she is cheating on me with 50 other women then I'm not sure if that's good for me or if I am just sol...

I don't think you understand how the cheating process works. Cute! You are so innocent!

OK, I'll fill you in. When she says the meeting was 2 hours, she was at the meeting for 30 minutes and spent the other 90 minutes somewhere else. Get it?

So, if you have an exam the next morning, you are supposed to skip studying and attend a mandatory 2-hour yawn fest? Apparently, the Department of Residence does not believe the primary reason to attend college is academics.

I went solely for the stories of who got the bowling pin or whatever the hell we passed around for people's stupidity. (Larch K-beck represent!)

Holy **** I never thought of that I really needed you to explain that to me.

I lived there last year...only went to like two meetings. I have only been to one so far this year, I guess I don't really see a need to go when I'm hardly ever there, either at a friends room hanging out or with the girl.

Never went to one single meeting when living in the dorms. Always had somebody knocking on the door to inform us of a meeting but instead went to the rec to play basketball or lift. The CA never had a problem with us not caring lol.

only dorks live in the dorms anyway. Maybe you should have her move out like a normal person
