Which one is it. The Big 10 fans for the last 9 years said that bowl records don't matter and just because they hadn't had a winning bowl record in those 9 years doesn't mean that it is a poor conference. Now they have 1 winning bowl season in which they won some games and that is why they are the best conference that season? Even though their record overall in the given year was below .500 against BCS teams?

Look at my previous post and find a way to argue that the Big 12 was better last year. Three teams the top 10 and four in the top 20 vs. one team in the top 10 and two in the top 20.

And the Big 10 had the same record against BCS teams last year as the Big 12. They were both 8-10.

Big Ten
Illinois: 12,910,409
Pennsylvania: 12,604,767
Ohio: 11,542,645
Michigan: 9,969,727
Indiana: 6,423,113
Wisconsin: 5,654,774
Minnesota: 5,266,214
Iowa: 3,007,856
Total: 67,379,505

Big 12
Texas: 24,782,302
Missouri: 5,987,580
Colorado: 5,024,748
Oklahoma: 3,687,050
Iowa: 3,007,856
Kansas: 2,818,747
Nebraska: 1,796,619
Total: 47,104,902

20 million more people! This answers several questions. One, why the Big 12 kisses Texas' butt - can you blame them? The Longhorns drive the ship. Take Texas out of our conference guys and we are in trouble. A&M and Tech aside. Two, why on earth would the Big Ten want Missouri? Simple math. Three, Penn State has an even bigger east coast appeal than the population suggests. Four, all 1.7 in Nebraska tune in to Husker sports so they have appeal. That can't be said for Iowa, Kansas or Oklahoma. Split fan bases in small markets.

Let the chips fall where they may. But some chips are ALOT bigger than others and it cannot be disputed. Population equals TVs equals ad dollars. There is always the, why don't we play on ESPN every Saturday? The answer is because ESPN isn't all that interested.

Both 8-10 with the Big 12 winning the head to head matchup....but the Big 10 was still better....and it was not even close! :biglaugh:

Last year?

Paul Rhoads telling Murph and Andy that Ok. State was the best team ISU played last year thinks that's a stretch.

Are you saying that its a stretch to say that Ok State was the best team we played? I'm assuming youre insinuating the answer to the question should, of course, be iowa.

I'll go ahead and agree with paul rhoads here. Similar margins, in one of those games we didnt hand the ball to the other team 6 times. Even if you do think its iowa, its not a 'stretch' to say OSU

Yes I am. You saw the way they imploded at the end of the year just like I did.

And no, I'm not - you could make an argument that Nebraska was the best team ISU played last year as well.

But Ok. State? Please.

They imploded just like Iowa did when they lost to Northwestern after they lost their starting QB. OSU lost Robinson after they were already without Bryant. When we played them they were the best team we played all year.

Wasn't aware that Iowa imploded, seeing as how they did win a BCS game and everything. Holding NW to 10 points after Stanzi went out and then taking Ohio State to OT in V-berg's first start is not imploding. This is imploding.

Losing on the road in a rivalry game to the team that had the best defense in the country last year? OSU should be ashamed they lost that game w/o the best WR in college and having their senior QB injured all game long!!

Lose? They didn't even show up! Just going off memory, I recall that OSU had something like 50 yard of offense - total - midway throught the 4th quarter.

That "best defense in the country" had also given up 41 points the week prior.

At the end of the year, one conference finished with the #5, #7, #9, and #16 teams in the country. This same conference was 4-3 in bowls, with each of its four wins coming against teams ranked in the top 15.
so we're going for the top 4 teams now? Thats definitive? Well lets just say the big XII has the the #2 team and the big 11 has the #5, so the big XII must be better because their best team is better than the big 10's. Picking and chosing teams doen't work for either side. There really wasn't much difference between the two conf's last year.

After the first team there was some drop in the big XII but there were 5 teams under that, that competed very well and much was decided by inuries. all were above average to good, While the Big 11 has their top four arguemtent, there is a big drop after that and the rest of the league was mostly garbage. The top four doesn't make the conference any more than the top team does. the conferences on the whole were basically equal.

As for the guy, that was talking about the big east, yes they were better than the big XII. They were the second best conference last year overall, so that isn't a real knock on the big XII. They were better than the Big 11 as well.
