Are you guys that ********?

Maurice Clarrett ring a bell?
Troy Smith ring a bell?

Remember OSU being on probation in the last 5 years for recruiting violations?

If you guys think that all of this behavior stopped when Thad Matta took the job you are nuts.

OSU has a large athletic budget, big fan base, nice facilities and a great coach. Why wouldn't a top recruit at least consider going there?

You can play the boosters card all you want but I'm sure that stuff happens at some level even here at ISU as it does at other schools. I just mark this down as a jealous post. I'd love to get a recruiting class like that too but don't you think that people at other schools would say the same thing about us as you guys are "oh they have to be paying these kids under the table to have that good of a class."

I won't say that it has to be as blatent as paying kids under the table, or that the coach even 'knowingly' is involved. When you have a booster group like tOSU has, the kids will have sweet cars to drive around campus, free meals at any restaurant in town, and pretty much have anything to ask for.

I'm not saying that they are the only ones like that. The Bomar and the lineman from Oklahoma last year, and Reggie Bush's deal at USC comes to mind too... it is a matter of how many people are willing to push the rules and play in those gray areas of the NCAA's.

Here's a link to ESPN story quoting the lineman from OU...

It seems like it started in bball when Matta got there. They were a lot like Iowa in Bball, never terrible, never great, but usually decent. Now outta the blue they get the best classes. Money in changing hands somehow. A coworker of mine happens to be the father of a famous sportsradio personality, and hes always saying how Tyler Smith was bought at Iowa. I dont know why he says that, but im sure it happens all the time.

When did we become such a jealous group? I know it's the off season but some of these posts have jealous boyfriend written all over it. If Gmac starts pulling in highly touted recruits soon, are we going to assume money is being passed? I think it's very ignorant to state that Matta is cheating more than others just because of his quick success. These coaches have been working on getting to that stage in their careers for a long long time, and when they finally get the chance some succeed and some don't.

I never claimed that Matta was involved in any way shape and/or form. Just that the boosters bend the rules. I think psyclone Bill said it best.

Yup.....I agree jtd9046 success breads jealousy. Now I will admit, I've been an OSU fan for as long as I can remember. I'm not going to debate the thing with anybody though, since I have no inside information, but one thing people forget with Oden and Conley is that they were a package deal. They grew up playing together and have been good friends for a long time, and there is something to be said for good players wanting to play with other really good players simply because it helps them elevate there game.

Have you ever listened to Matta talk? He's a heck of a salesman. Personally, I never get caught up in jealousy because it does me no good. I think some of you are working on an early ulcer.

I agree. Someone has success and it's because they are cheating...come on!

I saw an interview with Gene Smith on TV a few weeks ago and it sounded like OSU has more people on staff working on complyance than ISU has on the AD staff. I know that OSU has a history of some shady deals under the past AD's watch, and I am not ready to nominate Gene for sainthood, but it really looks like OSU is trying to clean up their act. We have no right to start throwing rocks at Ohio State because they have a great recruiting class. They have a lot of things going for them that schools like ISU dream about. At least we don't have to play them anymore.

The only problem with there recruiting is they are only going to get a lot of there players for 1 year. I would much rather see recruits comming in that are in the 15-30 range in rankings. Not that I would not take there recruiting class in a New York minute.

OSU became great with Oden and Conley. Motta is using that success to attract more national talent. The 2 guys in Ohio grew up with OSU being "the" school.
