How far will the bench extend?

As far as Brase's injury problems, perhaps we shouldn't read too much into it. It sounds like the original fix of his knee was never right which caused him to be susceptible to re-injury. By all reports this latest surgery was much more successful.
Still difficult to come back from. I don't think him or Beverly will be 25 minutes guys. Probably both 15-20 minutes guys depending on who is playing well. I really think all the guys will be getting minutes because outside of Jackson and Wigginton I don't think guys will be getting 30 + minutes. Except maybe Young.

That clarification was not intended to comment on the length of time required to recover and get back into playing shape/recover shooting touch, but rather to allay fears of susceptibility to injury. A lot of people seem to be commenting on him injuring the same knee twice and the likelihood of it happening again. It really should be considered one injury that wasn't repaired properly and never really fully healed.

I bet in competitive non-con games we go mostly 7 deep, with Lard, and to a lesser extent, Long, being the 8-9 guys who play some against the weaker teams and not much in tight games.

I think Lard will for sure get minutes all season regardless of opponent. We don't exactly know what we will get in Lard but it isn't like he is behind Niang and McKay. He's behind Young, who we all love, but still has a lot to prove and Beverly and Brase who are also big unknowns. Wouldn't be surprised if Lard is the second best big by conference play.

How I see it:

1. Donovan Jackson
2. Lindell Wigginton
3. Nick Weiler-Babb
4. Hans Brase if healthy
5. Solomon Young

6. Cameron Lard
7. Jeff Beverly
8. Terrence Lewis
9. Jakolby Long
10. Darius Mc..oh wait nvm.

There's going to be a lot of minutes available for Long and Lewis. We have 5 guys for the 1-3 spots. It's going to be interesting how that all shakes out

It really wouldn't shock me if we play 9 deep a lot more often this year, with 7 still getting the bulk of the minutes.

I agree. In years past we didn't go very deep because the starting lineup was really strong and there weren't a lot of minutes available on the bench. That won't be the case this year. Almost everyone in the projected starting lineup will be fairly unproven and that could open the door for minutes for the 7-9 spots.

Inevitably the cream rises to the top and your 7, occasionally 8 separate themselves by mid conference play.

Generally if a program like ISU has 9-10 playing it would mean you have a bunch of average players and not enough have separated themselves l.

Agree. I mean we only have 9 eligible players. Guessing they all will not only 'get to play' but will 'have to play' during one point or another.

I'm all aboard the Cameron Lard hype train. I think he will contribute and be a solid player for us next year and on down the road. More so down the road.

I'm not saying he'll start next year or anything but his size/skill set is intriguing to me.

I see Brase and Beverly as experienced augmentation to frontcourt to go with Young, and also to help merge Lard into development without having to throw him into the fire too soon. And if Lard comes to the fore more quickly than expected, B&B might have slight reduction in minutes throughout course of season.

(Also, Beverly can help at 3).
