Not super recent but we got ours a year ago February, I think the timeframe they gave was 6-9 weeks and we got it right around 6 weeks.

I had to renew my passport recently (actually received the new one this week). It only took about 3-4 weeks max from the time I sent in the paperwork, albeit was a renewable and not a new issuance.

They were super backed up early last year, leading to waits lasting several months. That may be what that coworker ran into. Sounds like they've cleared the backlog now.

I just got a new passport last month (after having one as a kid that was long expired) and paid for the expedited and it took about 2-3 weeks from the appointment to receiving the passport in the mail. Way faster than I expected and a pretty easy process at the post office.

Last time I renewed mine, got my photo taken at the local post office and...the U.S. passport office REJECTED it.

So, got it retaken at Walgreens, resubmitted the app, and...the passport office REJECTED it because the envelope was torn in transit and the photo was damaged (or so they said).

Third time, the app was accepted.

It was the fourth time I had renewed the original and I had never had such a thing happen!

Even so, the whole (or)deal took about six weeks due to these delays.

At the end of last summer, I had to apply for a visa to enter New Zealand. Took the photo myself and did everything electronically. No worries, no problems, but did wait about a month for their government to say "Ka pai" and grant me entrance.

BTW, got pulled aside while boarding the plane to Aukland, but that was the random "Gotta Keep the Riff-Raff Out" check.

In other words, take nothing for granted. Start the paperwork now.

My renewal (non-expedited) back in 2021 was about 8 weeks door to door.

Figure 2-3 months for a first time applicant. They do have other more immediate options. You can do an urgent renewal/application buy you'll have to go to an actual passport office.

Totally depends on where you are in the country, in Iowa they are sent to Chicago and we were told that its quicker to get them back from there than most places. We renewed ours the day after Christmas last year, and had them back by the end of January, but that was a renewal and not first time.

Not exactly sure.
Whole family got theirs almost Two years ago. Roughly a month and was told 8-12 weeks. We did everything at the courthouse to avoid missteps.

I got a passport last month. My old one was expired past the renewal time period. I paid for the expedite because I needed it for work. I got it in two weeks.
