How many games do we have to win....?

I don't really have a magic number for wins this season. I just want Iowa State to look like a Big 12 team this season. No more giving up 750 yards or losing 77-7. No more "CPR specials" where we meltdown after getting a 3 or 4 score leads. Just make progress towards being respectable.

I need (NEED) four wins out of this team this year - Iowa, OSU, WVU and KSU (need this one most of all). If we get these four wins, I can 'scoreboard' all of my neighbors and MLW that went to KSU. ISU was 0-4 in these games last year and it sucked. I'll even offer to pay some of CMC's salary if we can embarrass KSU like they embarrassed us last year in Manhattan. We made the trip from Colorado to watch the KSU game and I was in misery for weeks. Can't let that happen again. YMMV

4-5 wins with being prepared being a sustainable outcome.

The 'upset special' was exciting and all under CPR, but those came as a surprise only because of how bad ISU had looked in previous weeks.

I think that hasn't always been the case. ISU won the week before the Nebraska upset in '09. It was surprising because ISU didn't have their starting QB or RB if I remember correctly. In 2011 ISU beat KU the week before Okie State and waxed Tech on the road two weeks before.

Come now. Let's not let facts get in the way of demeaning the old staff...

I say 6 to 8. The skill positions are loaded on offense, and I have a feeling the oline gets closer to where it needs to be by fall practice. We may still get torched by the high octane offenses in our league, but a ball control offense will hopefully keep us close in those as well, with chances to win them. With Troy's induction into the HoF let's see if we can't get Warren on that path to greatness this year, as well.

6. We have too much coming back and have been down for too long. Anything less than 6 will be disappointing.

I don't really worry about wins. They will take care of themselves. If we don't have a center to lead the line we will be in trouble. If there is one area I want to see vast improvement in it would be holding an opponent inside their own 15. That was the one thing that drove me crazy time and time again. We get good punt coverage and the next thing you know we are trying to prevent a score. Wally's bend don't break made sense but we had nothing but that.

If the old staff were here, everyone would expect 6 wins at least with the talent they have coming back. No one would be saying the oline is way down etc.

I am positive the old staff felt if they got to this coming year that it would save them because they would be decent.

Now with a new staff (according to posters much better coaches)the expectations are lower? Sorry, that won't fly.

What's funny is that most of the posters "not expecting much" were the very ones expecting everything last year. Now you accept less than last year with more talent on the team?

Too funny.

I've said this over and over.... i really don't care about wins - i really don't. Wins will work themselves out.

What i care about is the improvement to be seen on the field. Start showing me execution, and i will show you success. Guys knowing their assignments and executing. A DB within 3 yards of a receiver and run a bubble screen in the correct alignment and not when theres three guys on two outside!!!

Give me those simple results and i believe this team can achieve. The truth is in the coaching. I was not worried about this staffs ability to coach - i was concerned with their ability to recruit. Well after 7-8 months on the job - that concern has been completely removed and this staff has shown their love for recruiting. Now can they translate that into coaching - if that answer is yes,, then i know the future will be bright and wins will follow!!!

A bowl game. Anything less is a disappointment.

I guess I agree with this. The team last year had enough talent to win 6 games. We flat out gave away Toledo and KState for 5 wins, and had halftime leads against Iowa and OSU. Close one of those out and we are bowling.

I am not cutting the program any slack because of new staff. UNI, San Jose St, Kansas and Kansas State are pretty much must wins. Then pick up 2 from @Iowa, Tech or WVU. Doable if we can get a serviceable OL.

It's his first year, so Campbell should get the benefit of the doubt. We'd all love this team to come charging out of the gates and win 8 games and set the world on fire, but I think 3 to 4 wins is reasonable this first year. He is off to an incredible start bringing energy and great improvement to recruiting. He and his staff are doing remarkable things so far.

How many WINS do I expect? 4-7 is probably being realistic. If we get to 6+, add another for a bowl win.

What do I want to SEE? I don't want to see a meltdown like KSU. I listened to that on the radio, I would have lost my $hit if I had been watching it on TV. If CMC can show he is a competent in-game coach (which I believe he is at this moment), we'll be just fine!

He needs to be better than a competent game day coach. You don't beat the big names in this conference by being just competent.

Although Rhoads running back fumbling cost him last year, he beat Texas how many times? (Should have been 3 but for officials). Nebraska at Nebraska with nobody on offense, etc..

Prior to Rhoads ISU never won those games. Never.

I hope Campbell is the real deal. I hope we still see wins over top talented teams or upsets on the rhoad.

Then I hope he can do more than rhoads, by having better recruiters on staff so that we won't see the down years like we have the last two.

I am hoping that's the case.

I would expect 2-3 wins with the old staff and figure they were lucky to pull that off.
There's enough talent to get wins. The new guys should be able to figure out what down it is and finish off a couple more, even get that nice 6th win.

5 or 6 wins. Anything less than that will take the wind out of the sails. It won't hurt the coaching staff. They'll certainly be retained and they'll likely have the blessing of the fan base. However, they've managed to develop a tremendous amount of momentum with their recruiting. They've built expectations without even playing a game. Which is kind of ridiculous if you think about it, but it's the truth. If they come out and look awful it's going to kill their momentum. That's why I say at least 5 or 6. That's what it will take to maintain the momentum they've built and it will allow them to continue building it. Who am I kidding though? This fan base is excellent at figuring out a way to get excited.

I think that the recruiting success so far has definitely built excitement, but those will be true freshmen (excepting the JuCos of course) - and the kids coming in next year.

I don't, nor do I expect most fans, would expect a lot of influence from those recruits to show in the W/L columns. Based on that, I think 4 wins will keep the momentum/excitement/recruiting at its current level. 5 wins will be a plus in that department and 6 and a Bowl bid will start the Kool-aid flowing like the Skunk River after 7" of rain.

Last years team was a few bad bounces/late collapses from easily being in a bowl game. The talent was there, but they under archived.

This is a more talented and more experienced version of last years team, with a coaching staff that's all on the same page. No reason not to get at least 6 wins like they should have last year.

Yeah I said that last year, and I also said if CPR doesn't reach 6 wins he needs to be fired, because that team should have done it.
