How can I get rid of this virus - Win32/Alureon.H

I have Windows Live OneCare (comes with my Qwest internet service) and it cannot remove the virus and am leary of what to use. This virus hijacks searches and takes you to web sites you don't want to go. Anybody had this and know how and what to use to get rid of it?

Backup and reformat. It's the best way to remove any virus. If that's not an option, I'd do some google searching and find out the files that need to be erased manually.

You can probably rid yourself of it by running spybot s&d and malwarebytes.

I'm not tech savy enough to reformat and I have googled to find a fix but the tough thing about this virus is individual files are not found that is why my Windows Live OneCare can't delete them. Any idea of an anti virus software that may get rid of this virus?

Most likely they arent found, because they were already deleted by your current antivirus, but the file generator of the virus/malware will keep putting out more until you end the process and executable. Go grab spybot, update it, and run a full scan.

Spybot rocks, put it on my work laptop because the one they provided stunk. Cleaned up 2 just yesterday with it.

Downloaded Spybot and ran it - no joy - still have the virus and it's pissin' me off.

Am I doing something wrong??

Your best bet is malwarebytes.

But the key is to scan your computer in safe mode.

The reason OneCare can't remove the virus is the virus is probably running on your machine currently and it can't stop the service.

If you boot into safe mode the minimum amount of services will start and you should be able to remove it.

So many times when a virus or viruses (as often one downloads about 12 others) hit the computer, the damage they do across the system, as well as the fact that you might not completely get everything off of there (especially depending on how much it hid, how much it messed with the registry, etc) , makes a good case for getting it to a point where you can offload your data and then format\reinstall.
