Wait, I thought the backups are capable of just stepping in and minimalizing the impact of losing the starter?

And I don't agree about Nebraska. Their best win of the season before the bowl game was against a depleted OU team. After that they beat 3 teams with losing records.

I thought we already hashed the backups/coaching thing out? If not, go back and read our discussions last night.

Note that I said kNebraska at the end of the season, which includes the big 12 championship and bowl game. You could nitpick any team apart if you want to.

I don't think SH is poo-pooing the Leach firing, what I think he is saying that Ruffin (who has been at Tech for quite a while) knew what was required of him for the the role he was stepping into - it was an easy transition.

Not so for the 7 newbies who had to take the place of suspended starters for MSU.

There are always exceptions, but one can break down who has the edge in many contests along the lines of 1/3 talent, 1/3 coaching, and 1/3 bringing your "A" game. TT gets the edge in talent even before the suspensions. MSU should have had the edge in the other two based on the timing of the incidents. I believe that the MSU thuggery occurred back in November which gave the staff ample time to game plan for what they had to work with and implement it in practice. TT was thrown into turmoil during the key days leading up to the game. The point remains that TT won and they would have won by more if you could rewind the clock to mid-november.
